Question I Need To Quit Smoking!!!!!

Hi! My name is Lori and I am new. I had an 8mm right PCA aneurysm rupture twice. I had 2 brain surgeries to place a clip. That was 2 years ago. This past summer they discovered that I have an inoperable 2mm aneurysm at the base of the clip. I smoke about 1/2 pack of cigarettes a day and I am having a horrible time trying to quit. I know I have to quit, or it will kill me. Is anyone else in the same boat? Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Hi Lori. Sorry to hear you are in such a bad place. I quit smoking after many tries about 2 1/2 years ago. Thanks to my doc it wasn't as bad as it could have been. She prescribed a 2 week course of Xanax and Celexa. We had tried the patches and the Zyban (which made me suicidal) but that didn't work for me.

There is a new medication that was just approved called Chantix that is supposed to be wonderful. My mother was just prescribed it but hasn't filled the scrip yet. You might want to talk to your doc about it and possibly Zyban.

Good Luck.

Hi Lori,
Sorry to see the situation as well. A friend of mine's husband has just filled a script for not smoking, but I'm not sure what it is called....I'll ask when I ge ta chance. From what she has said, it is working well for the most part, BUT his usual triggers ofd stress made him light a cigarette after a week of not smoking.....but it was just the one that I know of.....and the trigger was his mother So we took a vote and said he had to stay away from her

Speaking of the triggers, try to stear clear of them, if at all possible. If you would smoke during a work break, find a crossword puzzle to do or word find instead of going out for the usual break.....for me not smoking on the job is veyr hard....as I work with kids....sometimes they can just get ya BUT I piddle if I am finding myself having a mini-meltdown.

Good luck and read, read read....one of the best time spenders on earth.
Take Care and let us know how yoiu do

Unhappy Many Thanks From Tink

Thank you all for answering me. I am going to ask my NS for a script for that new medication to stop smoking. I am soooo disgusted with my doctors. I don't know if you all are that way, but I am ready to just walk away!! I had an 8mm aneurysm rupture December 21, 2004. I had a subarachnoid hemorrhage and a stroke. It has left me with terrible headaches EVERY day. I had been taking 1 percocet in the afternoon and that worked pretty well. Yesterday I saw my PCP and he discontinued the percocet and told that "I would have to find something that will help me"! I nearly fell off the table. Beacuse I am a nurse and am used to dealing with idiot doctors, I reminded him that my insurance company is paying him to do that. I just left there and broke down in tears. I think they don't believe me! I also have an inoperable 2mm aneurysm for which I am having an angiogram March 7th. Does anyone else feel like their doctors think they are drug seeking? I think this is terrible. Thanks for the support.
Love,
Tink

Thumbs down Doctors are jerks!!!

Hi Christina! Thank you for your words of support. I don't know what's wrong with doctors anymore. I have never been treated so bad in my life. I am a nurse and am used to dealing with obnoxious doctors, so I fight back with them. Maybe that's the problem? I caught my doctor in a great big lie. I havn't yet made him aware that I know he lied, but I will. How on earth am I ever going to trust him again? I am scared enough as it is because I have an inoperable aneurysm in my brain. I already had one rupture and had a SAH and a stroke. I am actually ashamed of my profession! There doesn't seem to be alot of comapssion anymore. Anyway, thank you for the support. Take care.

Unhappy Dr's are jerks part 2

Hi Kaiti! No, I have not found a new doctor yet. I caught my PCP in lies and now I don't trust him. I have an inoperable aneurysm in my brain and I already had one rupture with a SAH and a stroke. It has left me with serious headaches. I was taking 1 percocet a day with relief. My doctor wants to take me off of them and he told me that I would have to go out and find something that works. THat infuriated me because I have a serious medical condition. I am about ready to give up. I am sooo tired of fighting doctors, insurance companies, etc. I hope this fills you in somewhat on what was going on. Hope you are doing ok. Take care.

Lori
