I googled it, but really couldn't find much at all. The little I could glean sounded like their is a mass by the olfactory bulb in the brain??
Sorry,
Lisa

Default Phantom Smells Gershwin Syndrome

Phantom smells are a symptom of at least 4 ( and undoubtably more) neurological events.
1. Does your mother have migraines?-phantom odors are seen quite commonly around migraines.
2. Has your mother had a traumatic brain injury?
3. Has your mother been tested (via MRI) for a brain tumor ?
4. Many people with epilepsy experience smells as an aura, the simple partial that often preceeds a larger seizure.

All of these are shared with the Gershwin Syndrome.
