About three weeks ago, i firt experienced this with my vision. It was as if someone were shaking it a bit and i couldnt focus. It lasted about 5 seconds then I was ok. Well, it happened again last night, same symptoms and I felt like i was spinning almost, hard to tell. It starts by the feeling like my eyes are going cross eyed, then i try to focus and I cannot. My vision is not blurry, I just feel like a camera that is being shaken from side to side. lasted about 7 seconds. I contacted my optometrist and doctor. Have an appt with my doc today. My eye doc says she will see me but she seems to think it is neuro, which SCARES THE **** OUT OF ME.
Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am out of my mind right now

Sounds like a condition called nystagmus. Generally, it is neurological in origin although it can have what's called an idiopathic cause, meaning there is no known cause.

Try not to worry too much about it (easy to say, I know). Wait to see what the docs say. I would imagine you will need to go through a series of tests to try to establish the cause. These tests will most likely be neurological ones to try to determine if there is an underlying condition.

Safely and inexpensively. If it is a B12 malabsorption problem (which if it is progressing to your central nervous system must be stopped immediately), 1000 mcg or more B12 orally (not the timed-release type) each day will almost always build stores.

This can be covered while you continue to explore other possibilities.

OMG Irishjaymass,

I couldn't believe it when I read this!! I could have written this myself with only a few changes. BUT, the only changes are that I have been having this for about three months now and it is now lasting up to a minute and a half to two minutes!! I have this once to twice a week now. I had this last night and thought, I really need to make an appt. and see someone but didn't know who. Would you please, please, please, let me know what you find out??? I would so appreciate it. You can pm me if you want.
Wow, someone who has the same symptoms. At least, I'm not alone!!

Welcome to braintalk! you have entered into a wonderful supportive family, and we are happy to have you.

It is very scary when you dont understand what is happening, but being worried out of your tree(( I know easier said than done)) may only make things worse, try and remian as calm as you can until you see a professional, while it could be something serious, there are many not so serious causes for your symptoms.

when you hear what your doctor says Good, bad or indifferent, Learn all you can that way although it may seem scary you will not be as afraid as you will understand more.

Thanks for the welcome and all the info from you guys/girls. I was a member awhile back, but was away for quite some time.

My doctor says that my symptoms dont seem to fit neuro. too well because i have no outward signs of any problems in that manner, sensations, numbness, movement problems, etc. My optometrist, who I am seeing at 10 am on friday after my 6:30 MRI, seems to think it is neuro. I am sure that a negative MRI would be a good thing right? I am very frightened though. It has only happened twice in the last 4 weeks, each lasting only about 5 seconds, but it shouldnt be happening at all. I am at high risk for retinal detachment, but my doc doesnt think that is related although he says my symptoms seem to go in both ways with either the eye itself or neuro, but since it is both eyes, he obvisouly ordered the MRI (Which I insisted on anyway).

When it happens, it is almost as if I had been spinning in a chair and tried to focus. That is the best way to describe it.

Thank you so much for letting us know what you have found so far. Like I said, I have been having the same exact thing with the same exact symptoms, so I am very anxious in what you find out.
