Default Has anyone had a deep cervical plexus block

Hi everyone, I just came bAck from having a " deep cervical plexus block", (in the neck)really hurt, no twilight medication, just local at site of injections. This was to relivie pain in face, ear, and upper teeth as well as shoulder. Nothing has happened yet. Except face is flaring up... teeth still hurt. it has been 4 days since the block. Does it take longer than that to work? I have full body rsd. Thanks, so much. I am suppose to have this repeated in 3 weeks, but the process was so painful and so far no results. If you have any info on this I'd love to hear your experience and if it worked and if you were given some anesthestia,, this really really hurt. mbrfz

I don't know anything about that, but I am so sorry you are having a rough time. I am sure that somebody will come around to answer you.

Did they inject a steroid such as Cortisone? Cortisone can cause a flare before pain settles down. I would give it at least a week...even if you only had anaesthetic block, minus the steroid.

I've had ESI foraminal blocks to my cervical spine. The first was without Neurolept anaesthetic. I requested a local injection because I feared having a reaction to the versed anaesthetic. I'd previously suffered a dystonia reaction when I had gynae day surgery. Have since had rhyzolysis under Neurolept with no adverse reaction...hence, follow-up ESI under Neurolept, all went well with desired relief. I am sure it took about 3 weeks before I could work out how much better I felt. There is quite a bit of settling down after having any steroid injected.

I tolerated the injecting without the Neurolept at the time. I'm sure it was because the nerve pain was not too bad "on the day". I've now got a return of that radiating nerve pain....way down the track from last injection. This time it is excruciating. On fire and very hypersensitive. Am in a pickle because I'm booked for repeat rhyzolysis under Neurolept with a 1pm appt. I've emailed my surgeon re the nerve pain down my arm. What has he gone and done....booked me at another hospital for ESI without Neurolept on the morning prior to rhyzolysis. Far too much for me all in one day. I also doubt that I can tolerate this ESI with just a local....I'll hit the roof if I can feel them anywhere near this nerve that is a fire burning out of control. To top it off.....we now suspect it is the local anaesthetic (marcaine) I react to. Far too complicated when depending on these treatments for relief.

I'm waiting for my GP to assist me to sort through this awful mess.

Good luck with yours. It's wonderful relief if you can get it.
