My Dyspraxia.......

Hiya......Im not sure where to start really,but here goes.........I was diagnosed Dyspraxic just last year,& i feel relieved that it wasn't me just going mad or imagining things......
Since a child i was always "clumsy",accident prone,just generally scatterbrained!!!!!......I've also got Dyscalculia too which explains alot regarding my schooling.....BUT.........What i find the hardest part is that it was caused by the physical abuse by my dad.From the age of 5-15,he used to hit my head of a wall until i fell to the ground,so my consultant said because as a child my brain was continually "swollen & bruised" it caused me to be dyspraxic.....
I think ive accepted it pretty well but still get "angry" at times......Even the simplest of things is hard for me like holding a pen or pencil......

I just learned about this yesterday, please tell me how did you get test it? If you could help me understand this. I started reading about it yesterday and it describes my daughter perfectly; perhaps it will help me understand her better.

Hi nutjob, I started reading about Dyspraxia too and I have found out that there are two elements of it, namely Ideo-Motor dyspraxia and Ideational dyspraxia. I am just curious as to how this case is being diagnosed and being treated. Any help?

Hi , i was sent a link to here from a good friend, ive suffered with Dyspraxia all my life so far ,im 39 this year, my oldest daughter who is 10 was diagnosed when she was 4, this is how i found out that i had it, i was tested as well , when i was a young boy i really wanted to ride bicycles with my mates but sadly fell off alot, stabilizers came off when i was 7 and i crashed alot, but i kept going , i got heavily into bmx when i was about 13 , i have never stopped cycling and feel this has helped to balance out the problems in both sides of my brain, ive noticed since my 2 youngest came along and i dont cycle as much that my Dyspraxia has got worse , sadly due to Dyspraxia i suffer with depression, i also have to have a very organised life vering on obsessed , ie things in the same place and i work in a very routine way, as ive got older ive had to admit to my self and others (close people) things i can not do, as ive found it hard to cover stuff up as im getting older, and i dont care as much , this is me so like it or lump it, ive generly created my own work as i find it easier working for my self, but since moving down to the south coast 10 years ago ive been in normal employment , i get by and have got through life so far, be adaptable as possible and keep a good life routine, i feel balance is the key and cycling and exercise helps, as for my daughter she is doing ok, sadly she doesnt adapt to well to her surroundings to well but she is 10 and we give her lots of support, sorry to go on and please pm me if you need any more help, ive helped many others with young children with Dyspraxia and feel it helps to hear from someone who has had it for many years and understands how it works, ,
