This is very interesting. I plan on talking to my doctor about this to see if he thinks I would be a candidate. Thanks for the info.

You would have to careful with this since I developed an ilieus while in the hospital when they took me off Miralax...so if they give you a placebo...you could develop other problems...

I was surprised at how fast I was contacted!

I have been on this particular medication for several months with mixed results. It certainly controls the pain I have from IBS but has not improved my bowel movements. Best wishes for all.

I talked to them today... And I was disqualified.. Because I took small dosages of methadone. The Duragesic I am on and the MSIR is ok. The lady did tell me that there are tons of complaints going back to the company because of the methadone exclusions... OH well... Back to Whatever works on whatever day...

Anyway the drug they are testing is Zelnorm which is on the market now. It indicates it is for chronic constipation. Reading their site it does not say anything about CP and constipation and my guess this study is to be able to promote it to opoid users...

I am going to start another thread on it to see if anyone here is using it...

This is nothing new. Most trials are set up to only include the subjects who are most likely to give them the desired results. Perhaps that would be ok if they followed up with a second trial for those who would be tougher candidates as they are the ones who would need it the most. Given how expensive the studies are supposed to be to conduct, that will not happen. So much for having controlled studies.

I am taking it as prescribed by my primary doc but would not have qualified for the study due to the pain meds that I take.

Thumbs down Constipation

For my constipation, I also use Reglan. It helps extremely well in helping stuff pass through my system a lot quicker and with less strain. I also eat a serving of Yogurt every day before bed and I think that helps a bit too because I notice on the days that I didn't eat Yogurt the night before a bowel movement just doesn't want to happen.

So, to sum it up, I think the yogurt is what makes me have the urge to have a bowel movement and the Reglan is what makes me less constipated. I did try Zelnorm for about 2 weeks in the past (a trial prescription) but it did nothing for my constipation; bloating, cramping, and nausea feeling gone, but no help with constipation even with eating a yogurt.

In my opinion, I agree with razzle...Reglan is the drug of choice when suffering from Opiate Constipation.

Hope everyone gets some relief soon! Take care. -RH

UPDATE:

Friday they left me a message and said that Methadone was allowed and for me to please call them back..

So today I spent an hour on the phone describing prescriptions, conditions, surgeries, etc..

So the lady interviewing me was done and asked if I had any questions.

I asked - if assigned the placebo, can I do my usual course of things I do to poop. She asked me what I did.. I actually have several things that are increasingly stronger.. Anyways I told her the first was ducoset, and I take 10.

I was disqualified. They will only allow three ducolax in the test, whether you have placebo or not..

I wish I could get by with three ducolax!!! Anyways I tried.. and she told me so far they have only 2 in the test...

If this was for chronic constipation, it really sounds like they are stacking the deck to make sure they get a favorable outcome... JMHO...
