Default Chiari Surgery Wary - Alternative Therapies?

Hello. This is the first time I have posted here and am glad to see the site is back up as I have often run into links leading me here in my searches to get some relief from a symptomatic case of Chiari. I have learned alot about this disorder on the WACMA forum but I have been frustrated in my attempt to find an alternative to surgery. Since decompression surgery is considered a therapy, and not an all together effective one, rather than a cure - I am determined to avoid such an invasive action. Does anyone have any information about other therapies that can alliviate some of the Chiari symptoms? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Marcie

Hey, Marcie.

If you're symptomatic with Chiari, you're probably not going to find that there is much out there to treat you other than surgery. I'm sorry to say this, and I appreciate your fears. I am a lifelong hydrocephalus patient myself, and my 12 yo son has autism and Chiari, so I really do understand how you feel, but I am less than optimistic that anyone will be able to offer any viable alternatives. I'm sorry...

Good luck to you,

LIZARD

Hi... I Would Get An Ct Scan Or An Mri To Start With And Find A Doctor Who Knows All There Is To Know About Acm....my Understanding Is That Some Of Us Can Go With A Hernia Of 3mm And Deal With It. Some Of Us Have It And Don't Even No It. My Son Had A 13mm Hernia, In Short The Spinal Fluid Is Pressing Down On The Brain Pushing It Into The Spinal Canal. My Son Is Still Having Problems And His Life Is On Hold, I Wish You The Best...........
