Lamictal Rash?

Hi, can anyone tell me what the lamictal rash looks like or knows of any online pictures? I have searched but have not found anything. I'm also confused are there different types of rashes that you can get from lamictal? From the searching I have done online it looks like there may be different types of rashes with only one being dangerous. Is this true?

SJS is also known as erythema multiform. It starts with just general redness and is sort of rough. Then a more spot like with a blister in the center forms. The blisters then pop and the skin necrotizes (dies).

We never had a problem with Lamictal and Damon went up to 200mg, i've seen it workin in the hospital with antibiotics though.

Thanks for posting the descriptions and image are both very illustrative. Someone else was asking about this another time. I take Lamictal, 3 years and no problems so far, with Depakote too. But I have always wanted to know what to look for exactly...

Hi Everyone,
I have a rash due to taking Lamictal.
It started about 8 months ago when I went from 200 up to 225mgs. I dropped back down to 200mgs, but the rash did not go away.
I had it bi-opsied due to my concern and was told that it was med related but not the Steven Johnson Syndrome. My dermatologist prescribed me a cream to apply to the rash, which has not been too helpful..(O.K, I don't always remember to use it!).
The rash actually did get better when I used the cream everyday, but it has returned again when I stopped using it. I worry incase this is something that I will always need to use while taking Lamictal and wonder if I should stop taking it entirely?
I was originally prescribed Lamictal after having brain surgery and then getting seizures, but quickly realised that the lamictal helped me with my mood swings...I felt that I had finally found a middle..All my life I was either up or down.
I am not sure what to do, and I no longer have access to either my dermatologist nor my neurologist because I have relocated to a different country.
I was wondering, if I do decide to stop taking the meds, should I do it slowly like the way I started to take them, or can I just stop altogether?
Also, if I do stop but realise I need to start taking them again, do I need to do so slowly again?

Welcome to Braintalk.

Lamictal and any anti-epileptic drug (AED) should be tapered; they may need to be suspended abrubtly IF their continuation poses a greater danger to the individual, for instance possible seizures triggered by the abrupt drop in the seizure threshold.

If the reason you would quit meds is a practical/situational one, and not due to a change in your symptoms, then tapering is safest, especially considering your sz.

I'd really like for you however to look into a neuro and derm as fast as possible. Whether tapering monitoring or just maintaining... in any event, you need to have these "docs in a row..."

I started taking Lamictal a few weeks ago and got a rash. When I first began the rash, the pharmacist told me not to be concerned unless I also had a fever.

The rash only lasted 2 or 3 days.

I experienced the rash. It was much like the hives I got from a sulfa drug reaction. The rash was lightly everywhere but got heavy on my belly, back of arms, upper thighs, love handles and itched like crazy. I took Benadryl for 3 days at high doses and I stopped the Lamictal. Switched to Abilify and am still waiting for the side effects from that to slow down (getting better after two weeks and some lorazepam. Sleep was hard with new drug but I took a lorazepam and some over the counter sleep aid and I got ok sleep).

Thanks so much for being here. I began taking Lamictal 25 days ago (counting from the starter pack) and on day 12 began getting what I thought were spider bites. Well, they continue to replicate and itch like crazy. I'm taking the medication due to cyclothymia and ADD, but have found that it negates the effectiveness of Vyvanse. As I am in school again, it is not helping. Has anyone else experienced mental slowdown with Lactimal? I have a doctor appt. this coming week and hope to find some solution...Thanks...

Hey, I just finished taking the starter pack for seizures, the dose im taking is low, 100 mg, but I just noticed a few hours ago bumps all up and down my back. Like all over. I cant see them, they just feel like bumps. A little itchy. My boyfriend kept telling me I mustve had an allergic reaction to something, but I think he's just trying to make me feel better. I took my dose of Lamictal tonight, but I'm so freaked about the rash, its the one thing my neurologist warned me about with the meds....I wish I could see what was on my back and compare it to the legs on top, I tried taking some photos but couldnt get any good ones.

Guess I'll have to get it touch with my doc. Figures my checkup was yesterday and everything went aok...
