cloudz, Apparently someone simply ignored what it said & assumed the form said yes, give it. Next time they are saying do not send any form back to us if you do not want your child to be innoculated.

This would tend to get me angry if I was the parent.
Around here we don't have the H1N1 shots yet,ran out it seems. So in next county they had a HUGE line to get the vaccine & then were shocked @ the number of people. So first they scare us all & then they can't help us. Now what sense does that make? Goddess, I'm not surprised Texas is not giving you a warm fuzzy feeling. It seems to me they give convicted felons the shots to protect the workers? Plus gotta keep them healthy so can hang 'em or whatever method they use these days. How many deaths are they reporting each week from "normal" flu?? I just don't get the "first scare the people-then deny them the vaccine" cause OOPS we didn't make enough! Wash hands & pray for the best I guess? This is a nutty world we live in folks,so use common sense & fight for your rights. Goddess I hope your doc comes through for you! And has it not occurred to the powers that be that standing in long lines for hours on end in the cold & surrounded by "at risk" people, might just be like asking for a flu bug?DUH,my 2 cents......

There are smaller schools closing in the upper part of the mitten it says due to so much absenteeism because of illness in most of them and a couple say due to H1N1. The news has said to have your child checked for it even if you think it is just the plain old flu because early detection is best.
I find it absurd that this country never has enough vaccination. Just another way for them to have an excuse to be selective and to keep the masses in a panic. Lor I have no clue what the hospitals are doing during this but I do know that there were not too many places that children couldn't go in the local hospitals. I am sure that now there are all kinds of limitations. It is a shame that other countries are so prepared that they have enough spare to send here to help. I am going to call our ped and see if he has gotten his batch yet and when shortcake goes in for his allergy shots I will have his vaccine done. Clouds while there are no actual cures for the flu there are a whole plethora of sites on things you can do to make it easier and to help it along a bit faster. I really hope I can get the vaccine. My asthma has not exactly been at it's best since I aspirated stomach acid and got sick a while back. Last thing I need is to get a really severe case of the flu.

I thought it was common knowledge that H1N1 can be treated with Tamiflu. However, the difficulty is that the medicine needs to be given early on, and also there are certain guidelines as to what cases are supposed to get it.

I can't really wait for treatment. Tamiflu isn't a cure either.
The H1N1 creates an increased danger to people with lung problems as it tends to grow in the lungs and often causes a secondary pneumonia. Viral pneumonia, like any other virus, can't be treated by antibiotics. I missed going out with my kids for only the 2nd time. Last time I was in the hospital from a dog bite. I have yet to be able to get the vaccine. I imagine if I commit a felony......LOL

Goddess, I agree! I have COPD and haven't been able to get any shots. I had pneumonia this spring. This was after Medicare REFUSED to cover a pneumonia vaccine last year (even though I have a history of major bouts). The $250.00 shot ended up costing them $29,000, plus whatever my oxygen costs as a result of the COPD!
Taxpayers should be outraged! Most of the school teachers don't fall into the "targeted age group", so they aren't getting the shots. Meeghan told me this yesterday! Alexa hasn't gotten hers yet. Everyone including myself need to realize there is a TON of misinformation out there! Please don't think Tamifu is a CURE or deterrent as it is not, there are some major side effects that can occur with any medication.

I found out that the only requirements the clinic around the corner from my house had was recipients had to have two or more minor children in the household. Nothing about targeted age range, underlying medical conditions.....Ugh...and due to my lack of belief in basic human kindness I'm sure some lied about even having kids at home.

Well I'm thinking with this major mess up over a simple flu vaccine, how could we ever expect the gov. to provide health care????
And Kathy, your post just confirmed my thinking! No wonder this country is broke....

I'm beginning to think it was too late for me anyway.
Yesterday I got very dizzy, just sitting. The walk down the hall to the bathroom was precarious. This morning I woke with a little chest congestion and a small cough. As I write this, I am now having a hard time breathing, despite good weather and being on my oxygen all day (when it's humid I have difficulty breathing). I called today for an appt and 11/17 is the first opening. I took it but if I continue this decline I'll be in the ER by tomorrow (which I HATE). Ugh
