Default workmans comp and SSD question

My husband injured his back at work 2 years ago..he has had several surgeries, blood clots and is on several pain meds. He has just been approved for SSD and is still recieving workmans comp which pays for any medication associated with his injury. His workmans comp lawyer told him that if he settles his comp case he will have to pay for his meds out of pocket because medicare will not pay for any meds or future surgeries or needs associated with the injury. This sounds crazy to me since he will be getting SSD because of his back and neck. IF he settles his comp case he will have to pay $400 a month out of pocket for meds! Does anyone have the same situation or know if this is true.
