I'm starting a new thread because I didn't want to change the tone
of the other one, but I have a question about subscriptions to threads.

I've subscribed to a thread in the Spinal Disorders forum and (I think)
a thread in the hydrocephalus forum. The reason I'm saying "I think"
is because I subscribed to them when the forums came back up, but
I've never gotten e-mail notices saying that the threads have been
replied to. The only way I know that there have been replies is by
coming to the site and checking the threads.

I'm subscribing to this thread, too. Let's see if I get anything in my
mailbox.

Let's see if you recieve a notice that someone has replied to this thread :).

I don't know why the notices aren't arriving on the threads you had already subscribed to, unless, it is as you said: Possibly it was the tiiming and, from the tech. end, things were still in the process of getting ready to function.

P.S. I think, before BT went down, there was a prob. with some receiving notices some time back. I don't remember exactly what the prob. was, yet I seem to think that it had something to do with JL needing to add something in a script related to how VBulletin works.

I came to the forums at 2:30. I saw your message and the time you
posted it and checked my inbox. There's no message there. I'm not
sure what's going on.:(

Gina, I've subscribed to the this thread, as well, and chose "Instant" e-mail notification. I may not get a notice re: that I've posted, so we'll see what happens after you or another person posts here.

It might be that a command (for notifications) needs to be added to a script in the database - that enables the notices to be sent to members.

I just saw this message, but there's still nothing in my inbox. When I come
to the site, there's an icon showing that I've subscribed to the thread, so
that part of it is working. But I'm still not getting the notifications.

Gina,

I received E-mail notice that you replied.

Here are a couple ideas...

Re-check in your User CP the Options. Be sure to check the box that will allow you to receive E-mail. I'd check both boxes for now, and then, later, try eliminating the one allowing mail from other members, if that's something you prefer.

If checking the box(es) doesn't work, you might want to call your ISP (Internet Service Provider) tech. support and ask it to make sure that no filtering or blocks are preventing mail from "BrainTalk Communities" <braintalk@gmail.com> from reaching you. If you're using a browser-based or web mail service, double-check the "spam" or "junk mail" folders.

You might have to manually check those type folders if they exist for the service you're using.

After you're sure that you can receive mail from BT, post again and I'll reply. Give it some time to see, then, if you get the notice.

I went to the user CP and both of those boxes are already checked. And,
I'm showing that I'm subscribed to 5 threads. But, I also saw this:

Default Thread Subscription Mode (the box next to it: Do not subscribe)

The spam/junk mail filters have been checked many times. I can view and
post, but I don't get notifications in my e-mail. It's the same address I
used when I originally joined BT.

I just looked at the box that says Additional Options. The thread
subscription is set to Instant E-mail Notification.

BTW, this has only been happening since BT came back up. I'm not sure
if that means that it's a glitch that has to be worked out at BT's end or
not.

Hmmm... I'm at a loss :o. Possibly David, ZombieSlayer and others might also read this thread and might have some ideas of what's happening or have other ideas to see if the prob. can be resolved, Gina.

I just got a notification about your reply in this thread!:) And, I haven't
changed anything, so I don't know what could have happened. I'm just
glad that it seems to be working now.

Thanks for all your help!:)

I'm glad it's working now :D.

Default Thread Subscription Mode (the box next to it: Do not subscribe)

This is a global setting and will be the primary in place unless you change it or unless the global setting at admin level is changed.

Even if you respond to a post, this setting will override your getting notified unless you changed it to read instant or daily or whatever. You have five options listed. Whatever is listed in your User CP will override the default setting. Liz

I just changed it to read instantly. We'll see what happens the next time
someone replies to the 2 threads I'm subscribed to.

Thanks!:)

Then it should work, ASSUMING your ISP/email cooperate, LOL. Liz

Well, somebody's not co-operating, because I'm subscribed to 6 threads
here at BT and I haven't gotten e-mail notifications on any of them since
the forums came back up.:(

I'm using the same e-mail address that I had before the forums went
down. We did switch ISPs from Comcast to Verizon, but that was
before the crash. And, I'm not using the Verizon mail at all.

All my subscriptions are "read instantly"-in fact, as soon as I reply to
a thread, I'm automatically subscribed to a thread, without even
clicking on anything.

If it makes you feel any better, I'm having similar issues. 2 days ago I got 34 emails that are 3 weeks old or older

I use gmail for this account and I see about 70% of incoming emails from Braintalk going to the spam folder.

There are a few factors that could be causing this, but I'm going to say that it's most likely an issue with BrainTalks emailer (due to the amount of different email providers having similar issues). John's the only one that can fix this, and I'm guessing if he knows about it, it's quite low on the to do list.

Yikes! Okay, so it looks like I'll just have to come here and check
on the threads more often until this is fixed.

About the spam folder: that was the first thing I thought of, but I've
been checking it all this time and there's nothing in it from BT. Hopefully,
John can get this straightened out when he gets a chance.

Thanks, Mike!:)
