Hi Laura
I've never been to your country. Judging from what I've tasted here, I'd have to say your country has the best food on earth. :p
You talk a lot about us over there? What could you POSSIBLY have to talk about. :D
I got involved in native issues because I didn't understand why we still had Indian mascots in sports teams. "Redskins" is actually a piece of skin that bounty hunters had to show in order to get paid for killing an Indian.
I was also curious why my non-native nephew in Boy Scouts was dressing up like an Indian and dancing in powwows. I didn't understand why they were teaching the boys it was an honor to Indians and that the boys were preserving Native American culture.
I didn't understand the fascination with Native American spirituality. So many people who supposedly "follow the red road" don't seem to care anything about the people themselves. They only want what they can take from the culture. :(
I didn't understand why some Christian people say Native Americans worship evil spirits in their ceremonies. I never saw anything wrong with honoring your Creator, your ancestors, and doing your best to keep your community alive.
I've ALWAYS been deeply disturbed by racial hatred and discrimination. As a kid, it made no sense that my church elders threw rocks at Martin Luther King and laughed about it. It didn't sound like something Jesus would do. They told me King was subhuman, but he later won a Nobel Peace Prize. I guess they weren't very good at judging character. :p
You asked if I see a difference in Native Americans vs, USA/European. I see some minor cosmetic and cultural difference, but inside we all have the very same human desires.
Unfortunately, every country with indigenous nations treat their natives people poorly. The same goes for impoverished people - tend to blame them for their poverty, or use them only for political gain. It's not just the USA. :(

Yes,we do talk a lot about U.S.A. in Italy, for many reasons,I think there's half italians who just adore U.S.A. and the other half who severely criticize you.The reason why is a long story,I'm not sure you're interested about..;)
Just today, there has been a public demonstration against USA,in north Italy, because USA is going to increase a Nato base in the middle of a town(Vicenza),and a lot of people do not agree, even the government allows it....
This is one of the reason we talk about USA.........
Hi Italia,
I know you had some concern about the possibility of someone in chat not liking people from other countries. I can assure you, that is not the case here at BT. People from all over the world come to and are welcome here.
I know when I first got online I thought it was the living end that I was talking to somebody from OZ in a chat room :p and have met people from all over the world. But everybody online looks the same to me and I have no way of knowing anything about them except the name they use unless they say something about themselves or show their picture, so I treat everybody the same.
Myself, I have a Swedish heritage that I'm proud of even though I was born in the US. Still, I have a Japanese name that I normally use and am known by everywhere except here at BT. I can be found on Google by it. ;)

Hi Laura :)
I had to think about your post a little and put myself in your situation. I don't think I'd like foreign troops expanding or building bases in my hometown. :o I later saw a news clip of the protest, and obviously I can sympathize with their concerns.
My ex-husband served in the Navy and was based in Italy during the Viet Nam era. He really loved Italy. :)
Where are you on this issue?
This world confuses me sometimes. We're taught to worship our creator and love each other, but we tend to worship money and weapons and use it to destroy each other.

Thanks to all of you for your answer...!
Mott:yes I had the senasation someone in the chat didn't like me to be there but it was just a sensation, maybe I'm wrong;) ......anyway I don't think it's the right place to talk of politics and I don't want, one is Us government and one is american people.
It wouldn't be polite from me to criticize your government as I'm a guest on this web site and you all have been very polite with me,above all those wonderful moms on Autism thread,(((HUGS)))
I personally do not like the US army comes here to do its bases, because I'm a pacifist.
But I want to know the more possible of Americans, because I want to understand you...!
Thanks to all of you for your answer...!

Hi Italia,
Yes, you're right about not talking politics in chat. Politics, sex, and religion are off topic subjects for BT chat.
I can assure you though that the country someone is from doesn't have anything to do with them being welcome in chat, if anything it enriches the conversation. Everybody is welcome in BT chat no matter their race, nationality, gender, or religion.
There are a lot of people from NZ, OZ, Canada, and different parts of Europe that come to chat. I've met people from Thailand, Africa, and South Africa there too. One girl lives close to the north pole and her mother has the same last name as mine.
I hope to see you there again sometime. :) We're usually up late into the night and would love to have you join us.
