Hello Everyone!
I have a question and I hope someone here can answer. In Florida if you look up your doctor on the state website, they have doctors listed as Dispensing Medical Doctor or just Medical Doctor. I know they can both Rx meds. Does anyone know what the difference is, I am soooo confused.
Thank you so much,

Hi FlGirl and welcome to the board!! I live in Florida as well, but I honestly don't know the answer to your question. My suggestion would be to go to the doctor which specializes in your illness. Also there are alot of people who see pain management doctors for their pain issues.
I'm not sure if your new to the state or what part of Florida you live in. If you want to PM me with more info I will try to help if I can.

Dispensing Doctors give you the meds right there in the office.
There are systems out there, being trialed, where machines in the doctor's
office dispense your meds. (Sort of like ScriptPro in some pharmacies).
In that event, certain laws pertaining to pharmacies have to be followed, in
addition to medical office rules. So the license would reflect that.
Here is an example of a "dispensing system"...

The downside of this is the limited formulary. Putting patients all on the "same" drugs without access to special cases/needs. And of course this makes more
$$ for the doctor.

Hi Mrsdoubtfyre and BrokenBladder!
It is very nice to meet you both. Cool that you live in FL too, yay!
I was wondering because my primary care doctor is a dispensing medical doctor. I ahve never filled any Rx's at her office. She Rx's all my pain meds, (i.e. Duragesic and Dilaudid), thats what was so confusing. When I looked up my old pain doctor, it just said Medical doctor. That's kinda cool that some doctors are dispensing meds, kinda of like a one stop shop.
My primary care doctor is the best and I trust 100%. I don't have a lot of money even I have insurance through my husbands job. They don't cover a lot of meds I am on. My primary doc fills up a bag a free samples that last me until I see her again. She knows I need the meds so she doesn't want me to do without.
Thank you,
FLGIRL

Hi, I've been lurking on and off, but finally registered. I have chronic pain due to 5 herniated discs and spinal stenosis. (I have had one surgery) Also osteoarthritis. My orthopedist and PCP have thrown up their hands, and my PCP wants to refer me to a pain management doctor. How does that work?
PS..I am also in Florida, so if anyone can suggest a good doctor who takes Aetna, that would be great.

Hi Painee!
What part of Florida are you in? If you PM me, I will see if I know a doctor in your area. I don't know about the insurance, I have Cigna myself.
Take care
