I have Myoclonal Cerebellar ataxia, I also have a lot of stomach issues. I went to see a gastroenterologist, He took one look at me and sent me to the hospital. His partner was the doctor to take care of me.
He was rude and judgemental! He thought that I took to much medication, all my neuromeds! I didn't even ask for these meds I would like to not have to take them! I was having tremors, He didn't understand!
He seemed so angry! I take Clonopin to help control my tremors. But it wasn't working, he questioned me about this. I was crying, I didn't know that I was going to be admitted, I was alone and so tired of being in hospitals!
I told hom that Versed, the most common used drug for that procedure didn't work for me because the Clonopin is an antagonist to the Versed. After I told him, he gave me a small dose of Versed and did the colonoscopyI felt everything, Then he did a EGD, I chocked and gaged!
Ever since then I have not had a gag reflex. I have had bilateral pneumonia 2 times and now I have a feeding tube!
Could this have all been caused by that Dr.?
Thanks, Javisi:(

Here's a link to this....perhaps what got damaged causing the lack of gag reflex.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glossopharyngeal_nerve
If I were you I'd seek out a good ENT who is knowledgable in this and find the cause...and if the damage was caused by this bad doctor, you need to be compensated in some way. Its going to be a long uphill battle!
Have you researched all the meds you're taking...see if there's a link to losing your gag relflex.
I'm wondering if those Neuro meds are whats behind this.
I do feel sorry for such an awful experience you've had.
I've never had both test done at same time by any of the rotten gastro's I've been seen by....worry about their getting those hoses mixed up! LoL!
Hope things turn around for you soon.
Blessings, Cheryl
PS...do you know the difference between those two camera hoses they use for Colonoscopies and Endoscopies?
Its the taste! I always got a laugh when I told them this one whenever I had one of those fun test.

Of very bad doctors....here's a link to a nightmare case you may want to check out.
http://www.judicial.state.sc.us/opinions/HTMLfiles/SC/25872.htm
But I'm really wondering if your loss of gag reflex really is caused by your ataxia....after all it is tied to neurological problems.
But then again I may be wrong and your loss of reflex is from damaged nerve during the EGD.
One time I woke up during this procedure...what a nightmare that was!
I was choking, fighting and very terrifying to me. I remember them holding me down telling me to quit struggling, then they sedated me further down.
Because of medications I had been on made it difficult to sedate me.
Then years prior...when I never ever took as much as an asprin, I woke during a DNC.
I opened my eyes....complained of bright lights, then heard doctor say "Hey, she's waking up there!"...thats all I remember, but afterwards my gyny told me I gave him a good scare by my waking like that...had never seen this before. hmmmmmmmmm! Interesting!
Have you seen a specialist for this gag reflex problem yet?
Something that should be dealth with immediatly as you know could cause a host of other problems.
I do wish you well....and find some answeres soon.
Blessings, Cheryl

Cheryl,
Thank you for the laugh, I will have to remember that one. I do think that it probably has something to do with me Neurologically. My bowel does not work right, insted of the villa pushing things down, It sometimes will push things up.
He was still the most hateful Dr. I have ever met. I now have a new gastroenterologist. I am always wide awake during these procedures, I hate that! The meds that they give do not work for me. I don't want to be completely out but I don't want to remember everything either. I have watched all of my procedures, even when my gastrostomy tube was placed. Now that hurt!
When he placed it he put a hole in my bowel, I got very sick and spend a long time in the hospital after the repair. But the thing about him is that he was truely sorry about what happened and stayed at the hospital for over 36 hours to make sure I was going to be okay.:) . I do not fault him for what happened, I learned a long time ago that none of us are infalable, and we do make mistakes. The didfference is he cared, the other Gastro was to concerned with my medications. He didn't take the time to know why I have to take these meds, I would love to quit taking them but I need them!
I wish he could stand in my shoes for a day, no meds.:D . I do not get a high off of any of my meds, because I need them! Enough venting. It is funny that I am posting all of this since I have to go to the hospital Tuesday to have an EGD. MY GASTROSTOMY TUBE AND STOMACH HURT ALL OF THE TIME. SOME DAYS WORSE THAN OTHERS. HE SAYS THAT THE MEDS THAT COULD HELP WITH THIS COULD MAKE MY NEURO SYMPTOMS WORSE. I SAY I AM SICK OF THE PAIN, LETS AT LEAST TRY THEM. OTHER MEDS DON'T SEEM TO AFFECT ME
Just a thought, thanks for the info.:)

you want to come out of a problem with something more than the shirt on your back and ideally, with something closer to an equitable distribution of property, and other real assets are nice, too. It is not a pie-in-the-sky best-case scenario.

VENUGOUD1,
Thanks so much for the info. The divorce is done and over with and I am so thankful. I did think about how shafted I got but now that time has passed. The things that he got, the vehicles and the house are material things. I got my sentimental objects. I am so thankful he did not break them or tear them up. But the best part is that I got rid of him! I am so much happier with out him!;)
I should have investigated and gotten a better Lawyer, yet I was afraid to go for my fair share. He drinks and is extremely mean!
So I am thankful to rid myself of that life and am moving on! Since I became sick my priorities have changed. I have now been striving to live each day to the fullist. I have my ups and downs. Some times medically I am just plain tired but I will try to move on the best that I can!
Thanks for the site, too bad the divorce is already over:(
