View Full Version : [Resolved] Complaints to Moderators are not Private
Since, as a poster has pointed out, the BT Privacy Policy has not been posted, I think it's important for those using the forum to know that when they click on the red triangle to report an inappropriate post the fact that you have made a complaint is shared with the poster posting the inappropriate message. I have posted about this publicly and had my post removed (with someone's--a moderator's?--words substituted for my own, but no notice to that effect) and I have written to moderators and David H privately about it but received no reply.
In my opinion it is unethical to notify posters of exactly who has complained about their posts and I believe users here should be advised of that policy.
So, are you telling me that the three spammers I earlier notified the moderators about who were spamming the General Neurology Forum with garbage and a sex site, when I was in there trying to post a message to clouds, received a notice saying it was ME who reported their spam???
p.s.
I asked John about fixing the links at the bottom of the page when the forums first went back online, but he didn't have time to fix it right there and then. Someone else posted the Privacy Policy that "used" to be in that link. It's obviously outdated.

I can't tell you what happened in your specific case, but I can tell you that I received notice of exactly who complained about a post of mine and when I posted about it earlier several others posted here that they had received similar notices about one of their posts and I received a number of PM's from people telling me the same thing happened to them. I assumed that when my earlier post was removed an explanation would be forthcoming but since I've heard nothing I'm reposting because I think this is something people here need to know about.
OK. Thanks Meg.
Actually I can understand why you're upset about it. I would be also.
I am sure it'll all get sorted out very fast.
take care there,
Lara

Yes there was an issue where people who's threads were reported knew who reported it.
This was another mistake in the usergroups that wasn't found until it was pointed out.
I've been assured (and tested with a couple of others) that this issue has been resolved.
There will be some bumps along the way as we work to improve Braintalk and moderator/user interaction. We appreciate all of you being patient with this process and encourage you to point out any other mistakes that you may find.
Meg1 I'm going to edit your title slightly.
Thank you, mod. #9. What I can't figure out now is why it's ok to talk about this tonight but it wasn't this morning. My post on exactly the same subject at 8:10 a.m. was deleted, as were all follow-up posts, with someone else's words substituted for my own.

Because the fix wasn't in place then. We didn't want a flood of users asking questions or reporting posts. Sorry for any confusion that caused.
Thank you again. That is a reasonable explanation but that is not what the unidentified moderator wrote under my name on my 8:10a.m. post. The moderator's text specifically says I did something wrong by asking about this. I know you are busy but I hope you will see fit to either restore my words with your explantion or at the very least delete the words written by the moderator that look as if they came from me. I think it is a mistake to allow moderators to alter members' posts without publicly noting that alteration.

A bunch of you are probably too young to remember this, unless you saw the rerun, but there was a situation on the old Maverick TV Show, where Bret maverick was supposedly working on a problem.
He was just sitting on the porch wittling a piece of wood. People would frantically ask him when the problem would be solved. Bret would keep on wittling the piece of wood and say "I'm Working On It" :D :D
Be patient folks, JL and DH are "Working On It", even though it may seem like they're not doing it fast enough.:D
In the meantime, I suggest that the Mods go easy on Member infractions and keep it to warnings for now, until the TOS are in place.

It is nice to see bt back. It will nice to see the policies implimentedin a fair and just manner where the charged party has a say or the ability to talk to a mod regarding a penalty tht may be of questional origin or completely false in nature.
I would hope that rumors wouldn't be used as a basis for claims being filed against users. Assumptions should never be the basis for an action by a moderator. The moderators action should be entirely based on facts not feelings or assumptions. No one should be tarred and feathered based on anything other than the facts.
The forumsa are great people and I am glad they are there. Hope that the entire system will function as a unit and there will be a policy that will allow for accused people to plead their case before any actions are taken in any case.
