They don't give you a list of foods to buy. You eat "real" food you can buy at your local grocery store. WW is not a "diet." Nothing is forbidden. You learn to eat what you like and portion it properly, the way the rest of the world does. When you join WW, you are committing to changing the way you think and feel about food. It's not like Jenny Craig or NutriSystem, where you have to eat their food, but you can eat WW products if you want to. I eat some each week, but beware of the salt! This is why learning how to cook more nutritiously is the key to losing the weight and keeping it off. You have a lot more control over what you choose to eat than with any other program.
As for the money, it is definitely worth it. Think about it: You're paying just a few bucks a week to learn all about changing your attitudes toward food. You get all kinds of recipes, access to everything online, and all the support you could possibly ask for. I joined nearly a year and a half ago and have lost about 90 lbs. :) WW has given me my life back! If you're serious about losing weight--no matter how much or little--it's the only way to go. :) Check out www.weightwatchers.com for all the dirt. :)
Personally, I'd advise going to meetings over being online, especially if you're brand-new to the program. If you have to restrict yourself to being online, get on the boards and ask any and all of your questions. No question is "dumb." :)
Good luck! You'll be doing the best thing you could possibly do for yourself! :)

Hello this is my first time logging on.
I have had a Bilateral C2 and C3 Ganglionectomy and a Bilateral C2-C3 formainotomy, Nov 30 205. Immediately after surgery I was never able to swallow whole food and I think this is from the cutting of nerve 3.
About 3 months after the surgery I developed severe muscles spasms.
It as been over a year now and now I am severely disabled do to the spasms around my neck, in my head, in my spine and in my shoulders.
The pain is so severe I can not leave home. Has anyone experienced this and do you have any help for me. This has been chronic and progressively worse. I have tried many medications, botox, trigger points, muscle relaters.
Nothing is helping.
Thank you for any suggestions.

I started Weight Watchers 3 months ago and I have lost 20 lbs!. I go to the meetings and I love the help and support that comes from the group. I don't think I would do as well if I did not have the "weigh in" to constantly consider so think about joining locally if there is one in your area. No one cares if you are heavy or will look at you strange - as I once thought. We are all in the same boat - we love to eat! It will change the way you look at food forever. Good luck!

I did WW in 2000. 5 mo in I had lost 46lbs and 5mo more for my body to stay put long enough to be life time member qualified. I got pregnant a 5 months later and I gained it all back and then some. Now no matter what I do, weight does not budge, 3 children later -- hypothyroid, perimenopause, diet restrictions, etc.
You get out of WW what you put in. If you follow the plan, weigh food, measure food, JOURNAL!, do not cheat or over indulge and incorporate light to moderate exercise -- you will loose weight. It is a slow weight loss of 1 to 2lbs per week after the initial "water weight".
You can eat a piece of chocolate cake for 7 pts, but you will soon learn you should have had 3oz of chicken for 3pts and a small potato w butter sprinkles for 3pts and 1pt for hot chocolate instead. Point ranges are by weight, for example I was able to eat up to 29pts when I first started. A Slim Fast is 4pt, there is more protein which = hungery controll and glycemic index stability in an egg. So I would eat 1 egg, 2pc of low pt bread toasted and 1 sl of lite cheese for the same 4pts and be good until lunch time. Which would you rather have a 12oz drink or a real sandwich?
I think WW teaches you to think about these things. But it depends on your "leader" for the meetings. Some leaders are more "health" consciencious than others.
I saw a lot of people come in to the meetings and I could just tell by their questions, comments, and frustations that they were not mentally "ready" to loose the weight. You have to be ready, if you are honestly not ready, don't waste your money.
I say I want to loose weight, but I don't find time to exercise. I could if I really wanted it. I've used the tools learned at WW many times over the last 7 years and since my 2nd baby, I've really not "wanted" it bad enough to do it.
I also now have dietary restrictions that I did not have in 2000. I'm such a perfectionist that since I have no idea how many points are in homemade GF bread, cookies, waffles, pancakes etc I just stop writting stuff down too soon. The calculation process to know how many points is more that I care to sit down and do.
If you eat a normal diet and feel comfortable with diet sodas, sugar substitutes like sucralose, low fat and fat free then you'll do fine. I do not believe these types of foods are real foods and there is mounting evidence about aspertame and sucralose being neurotoxins. HFCS will be linked to obesity soon. It's aweful stuff and the body does not react the same to HFCS as it does to just plain old sugar.
I eat almost exclusively whole foods and even at a daily intake of 1400cals I haven't dropped 1 lb. I'd rather be fat and eat a healthy dietof organic milk, meat, veggies and fruits than be skinny living on diet soda and low fat bunless turkey burgers. I'm made my choice...;) Although I stil fight the fact I don't seem to drop weight.
