I took Nikki for her OBGYN appointment at noon. We were also concerned if Nikki's shunt had failed/was failing, the increased blood flow with the baby, etc.. She's 37 weeks, 6 days. He told us that Nikki's neurosurgeon had put in the notes in April that he felt there was a good chance her shunt would fail during the last month of her pregnancy. So, with symptoms and his notes, the OB doc in the office wanted to go ahead with an inducement today to be on the safe side, so he sent us up to labor and delivery while we wated for neurosurgery. Nikki is followed by the high risk clinic at Duke, so she's seen by many doctors. They did the normal ct scan, which showed no change (never does, so that wasn't a surprise) Thanks to those slit ventricles. The OB doctor on-call (a different doctor as it was 6pm by this time,) wanted to wait one more week until she's 39 weeks. They said they prefer NOT to induce before 39 weeks because there is still that two week window. So she could possibly only be 35 weeks, 6 days. She did have the steriod shots at 33 weeks when she went into pre-term labor.
They decided to try and wait until next week to induce labor when she's 39 weeks. So, if Nikki doesn't go on her own, we will have a baby next week by induction. :) I told her we have a football break this week (her youngest brother plays high school football) so let's get busy and "get it done" on her own as we have 2 games next week ;)
