A few days ago, out of the clear blue sky, my hands decided to turn red. The fingers and the palms are red, all on the palm side, and it also hurts to make a fist and do anything intense with them. I was looking up red palms and could find mainly liver disease, but do the red palms hurt from liver disease? Are my hands progressing for the worse (I have peripheral neuropathy)? Maybe my hands are semi-inflammed and healing and I am getting better? This whole palms and fingers going red and hurting happened overnight and it has been going on for about 3 days now.

Typically when an extremity turns color and/or becomes hot/cold it evolves around a circulation problem .. usually some sort of restriction or could be an isolated infection - for now - better get it checked out before it may start spreading...

Get it checked out but don't panic as I have same issues with my feet but it is not a serious problem for me.

I don't plan to go to a doctor for this, instead I posted here.

Does anyone know if liver damage can give palm pain to add to the red palms?
There are a million reasons why your hands could be red and painful.
I hope you were joking when you said that instead of going to the doctor, you posted here.

Nope, I wasn't joking. I'm sick and tired of going to doctors, going through a million tests and hearing news like "we don't know what is wrong with you" or "we can't help you at all". I'm pretty sure that none of my current doctors like me and they wish they never had me as a patient.

Mforce00 I can understand being sick of doctors and always getting the run around only to have them say, "we just don't know." However I feel compelled to tell you that I really think you should see a doctor. I googled your symptoms and it could be your liver among some other things. I only say this to you because I care.
There are far too many things that could make your hands red and painful... from harmless things to serious things... and we just can't tell without an exam, medical history, etc.
I am sorry that you are having such a hard time with your docs. It took me 6 years to get a diagnosis, and I was blown-off pretty badly when I first had neuro symptoms 6 years ago. I went through the whole "it's all in your head" thing and it was one of the hardest times in my life. It is bad enough not feeling well, but to not be believed at the same time makes it really, really tough. It's your body, and you know it better than your docs do. If you feel like something is wrong, keep sticking up for yourself until you get an answer that makes sense and is believable to you. If you need to change doctors to get the kind of care you need, that is your right... I am on my third neuromuscular doc, and he is the first one who really knew what he was doing and has come up with some helpful stuff.
Please, though, go to the doctor when you need to... even if you feel like it's useless. Stick up for yourself and demand the kind of care you need.

Kira very well said!! It takes a while to find a doctor who can come up with a DX, but in the end it's well worth it.

Sorry to hear that you have gone through so many things that you are sick of seeing the doctors. I know what you mean by that and I avoid seeing them for simple things that seem like new symptoms. Kira makes a good point about the need to stay persistent to get a right diagnosis. If you are taking meds that can effect your liver then I hope you follow up with a doctor visit just to have the blood work to check your liver output.

I agree. If you don't feel your docs are doing what needs to be done - it's time to see another doc - one that actually tries to figure things out.

You guys win. I'm going Thurs at 4PM. I'm going more or less because I'm also sleeping the whole day, I'm having nausea, and some other unpleasant symptoms. On a related note, this all started because of well a fever that I didn't think was a fever. I was basically laying down and my mom said I was bright red on my forehead and whatnot, but I didn't feel hot at all. I didn't feel well and was quite sick. It's just weird that when my fever went away the problems with my hands didn't. My fever could not have been that bad though right if I survived without needing medical attention? I was reading heat stroke gives someone a high fever, no sweat, and bright red complexion, but I lived. During the fever, I felt horrible, fatigue, felt like I was going to die, etc etc and almost did break down and call 911.
Extra rant: I hope nothing more is wrong with me and this is just a cold and I did do damage from the fever. I can't take having more things wrong with me. Ever since I got peripheral neuropathy 11months ago more stuff keeps going wrong in my life. I'm falling apart at such a young age. I'm scared I'm going to hear news on Thurs like I have liver damage or brain damage or bleh I don't know. I just want to be better :/ I miss the good old days.

I have PN also - I miss the good old days also...I have 4 boys that I can't do a whole lot with anymore.
I am so glad you're going to the doc. Take mom with you sort of to help you describe what happened and to help make sure that you aren't blown off.
Good luck - I hope it's not a big deal....
By the way - have you had 5ths disease or hand and mouth (I think that's what it's called)?
5ths will cause a fever and a rash - I had it when I was a kid. Kinda like an episode with chicken pox. Hand and mouth - I am not positive how that gets passed around - but I know lots of families that have had it.
see - it could be something that isn't permanent!

I empathize with you. There have been times when I never wanted to see a Dr. again as long as I lived. But please, don't wait on this. Even if you go to the ER. At least you can get a blood test and urinalysis.
Then, ask your friends about their Dr.s Check around because, at times it may be hard, but there are good GP's out there. Once you get a good one, they will stick up for you 100%. And they will refer you to other good specialists.
Good Luck My Sweet Baboo. opps, I mean MForce. I hope you feel better soon. I am praying for you. There is much power there.
Blessing to you,

Since today is only Tuesday, and I can't stop obsessing about what is actually wrong with me... Does anyone have any ideas what happened or what is wrong with me from my descriptive story above? I keep looking at the information on heatstroke, but I didn't feel hot, and aren't I supposed to feel hot? :/ These red hands keep making me think about everything... it's just the palms and fingers. I think that maybe I had heatstroke and it killed my liver... maybe someone has some nicer alternatives.

Mforce00 I'm not sure but it makes sense to me that since you had a fever there must've been an infection. As mentioned above my son has had 5th disease with similar type symptoms. Maybe it's just an infection that your body is still fighting and perhap there's some swelling in your hands that's making them look red? I'm just guessing, but I know one thing for sure I'm happy you're seeing the doctor!!

Here is info on 5ths disease. Kind of sounds a lot like what you're describing.

It's not a rash though. The palms and fingers are just red... like blood red.
I got this heart rate blood pressure thingie at walmart. BP is 135/80 and HR is 90. 90 is just wow, high. So this is odd, my heart was racing like 120-150 or so a few days ago when this first happened, and now it is high at 90. My normal is like 70... Heart damage might explain my problems?? I bet optimistic people are like it's just a flu, but no, I'm going for some type of organ damage. A pessimistic attitude is best when dealing with medicine since you will always be prepared for the worst.

tachycardia doesn't necessarily mean heart damage. Mine would jump to the 160's without meds. It's finally below 100 since the meds.

mforce00 I do truly hope there is no organ damage.
My heart rate is always around 90-95, but everyone is different. I used to have a normal blood pressure too until the pain shot it way up.
Please let us know what happens tomorrow even if you only get testing done and don't have a solid answer. I will be watching for your post. Take care and TRY not to worry too much.

hi -
scarlet fever comes to mind, as well as a lot of other things. Like somone else said, this could be caused by a lot of things, some harmless, some more serious.
i am glad you have decided to go to the docs. I know its frustrating - sometimes it seems that's all we do, but, in this case, i agree with the others.
keep us posted,
sims
