...that I will likely need another consultation for Drew at some point, and possibly sooner, rather than later. :( I realize now that Dr. B, as wonderful as he was to us 2 years ago when we saw him, knows precious little about autism and seems to think any kid who has it is incapable of expressing any discomfort. Not the case; I can assure you! My son has no trouble letting me know when he isn't well or is in pain. It's lookin' like I'll have to keep diggin' and may even ask my nsg about Drew's body temp issues resulting from the ACM and being enough of an issue to at least consider him for surgery. He flatly refuses to wear a winter coat, even in the most frigid of weather (as we have had recently and have currently), and in the summer, he gets beet-red and won't sweat!! I am genuinely concerned about heat stroke.

Another nsg's name was given to me, and I think I'll E him this week (Dr. Feldstein?). Apparently, he has done surgery on kids who appear only to exhibit autistic symptoms and behaviors, and there have been some amazing improvements for some.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone else in a similar boat?

Thanks for any input! :)

Liz,
It sounds like for some reason his autonomic system is out of whack! I know some of my students with different syndromes have that problem, they don't sweat and high temperatures outside can cause them to have seizures. I don't know about the cold part, but it makes you wonder doesn't it? Maybe Drew really isn't very cold, do you think he could put on a light jacket to wear to school because it makes Mommy feel better?
And to be fair, I work at an elementary school and the amount of boys who still come to school in shorts and light or no jackets blows me away sometimes. Actually, you usually see them carrying their jackets off of the bus, their moms probably think they are wearing them !
