I am looking for someone who can help me. I have Congenital Hydrocephalus and have Generalised Anxiety Disorder with associated severe Depression. I cannot find a doctor who can link and treat the two conditions, and feel totally isolated. Is there someone out there who can help me because I can't go on like this any more and am so upset, I feel physically ill.

I see a psychiatrist in relation to the Depression and anxiety, but even this team does not seem to grasp the extent of my distress, and i am feeling beyond hopeless at this point. If there is any doctor out there who can give me some advice, I would be SO grateful. I am in such pain from tension throughout my body, have constant tension headaches, feel faint and dizzy and am seriously struggling to function in everyday life and all that comes with it.

Please let there be someone out there who can help me.

Thank you,

Harriet.

Hi Harriet,

There is a very active board here for Hydro. I am not good at creating links, but asked if someone there would pop over here also. You can also scroll down from the main braintalk area and you will see the hydrocephalus board link.

(((((((((((((((((Harriet)))))))))))))))))). :(

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Please come to the hydro board here on BT: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=164. I think you'll find folks there who can relate.

I hope to "see" you there!

Hi Harriet,

I'm not sure I understand the relationship between the Depression, and Anxiety problem and the Hydrocephalus. The folks at the Hydrocephalus Forum are probably the best ones to help you with that issue.

However, you do not indicate where you live. Please keep in mind that people from all over the world post on these forums, and the types of medical help available in each, vary.

Have you explored with your psychiatrist the source of your anxiety? Many years ago, I, too, had problems with anxiety and was able to work with a counselor, find it's original trauma and deal with it. From time to time, I've found it appropriate, to make an appointment for a different aspect of the problem, and again put it in proper perspective.

Perhaps it would be helpful to ask for a second opinion and see a different psychiatrist? Cheerio.

Hello 'Tootsie',

Thank you so much for your message. I live in Sheffield, England, and I have already changed psychiatrist because no one takes on board both the Hydrocephalus AND the Generalized Anxiety Disorder/Depression, but still no one can help. There is a system in England called the NHS (National Health Service), which means I get free treatment for everything, but the drawback is that the services only provide so much, and then it would mean I would have to go private, which I can't afford. This leaves me stranded without the right support, and I feel I can't go on any more.

hi harriet,
I'm also from the UK - live up North ;)
Please talk to us on the Hydrocephalus section of the forum, or feel free to talk to me personally as someone who understand's the NHS.
There ought to be no reason for you to go private if you all you want is a second opinion.
How long have you felt like this?
When was your hydrocephalus diagnoised? How was it treated?

Are you sure the Anxiety and Hydrocephalus are linked?
Hope to hear from you

Amanda
