View Full Version : Cold weather...numbness and tingling
Does the cold weather affect anyone else in relationship to numbness and tingling. When my hands get cold they become numb and tingle. They stay that way until they are warm again whether it's a couple of hours or all day.
I can put them in warm water and that helps only as long as they are in the water. It seems to be worse this year than in the past and we aren't even into winter yet.
Any insight would be appreciated.

You may be experiencing the effects of Raynaud's Syndrome. Quite a few of us have it, along with plenty of people who don't have MS at all. http://www.medic8.com/healthguide/articles/raynauds.html
When my fingers (and sometimes toes) get the slightest bit chilled, they turn bright red, then numb and white in spots. Then they tingle and throb when they're partially thawed. It's especially bad when I'm going through the frozen food section at the grocery store.
The only way I've found to relieve it is to stick my hands under my shirt against my skin for a couple of minutes. It doesn't help me the slightest bit to put them in warm water or over blowing heat, and gloves don't keep them warm once they get cold, but my body heats them up pretty fast.
It's a bit of a trick to perform this movement in public without drawing attention to yourself, though. :) I wear turtlenecks a lot so I can stick my hands down the neck instead of somewhere else.
Raynaud's is a circulation problem, so you should mention your numbness to your doctor and see if that's what it is. I hope you're able to get some relief!

P.S.
Raynaud's can also be caused by medications.
I had very little problem with it the year I took LDN, however. LDN seemed to lessen my sensitivity to both heat and cold.
Thank you euphoniia.
I did a lot of reading on Raynaud's Syndrome. It sounds a lot like what I have going on. I have an appointment to see my neuro in the next few weeks and will mention it to him.
