View Full Version : subscriptions, email notices

I have 2 real questions and 1 "just wondering":
1. In my user CP, I see the threads that I have posted in as "subscribed threads". Can you subscribe to a thread that you haven't posted in? Even better, can you subscribe to a whole forum, such as the "vitamin deficiency" forum? If you can do either, please tell me how.
2. I selected the "instant email notification" for subscriptions and PM's. My email account is set up so that any emails I receive go to both my mailbox and my husband's. For some reason, (only for emails coming from this bulletin board,) he is getting the notices and I am getting nothing. Why is that, and can it be fixed?
Just wondering: what is the significance of the "new member" "junior member" "member" and "nerd/nerdette" status under the member names?

Yes, you can subscribe to a thread even if you've not posted in that thread :). Just go to the thread and, then, see where it says "Thread Tools" and click there. You will see the option to "Subscribe to this Thread." Click on that and select the option you want for receiving "Notification Type."
Yes, you can also subscribe to a entire forum. For instance, go to the forum Vitamin Deficiency. See where it states "Forum Tools" and click on it and, then, "Subscribe to This Forum."
I don't have an answer to your second question, yet am wondering if your ISP might be filtering mail? to, e.g., a spam folder on its servers?
The diff. between "new member," "junior member" and "distinguished" comes from the sum of posts by someone. It goes from, i.e., new to junior after "x" number of posts have been made.
Nerd/Nerdette signals people whom have volunteered (before BT went down) to help members with forum, computer, and tech-related questions.

Now.. there you go, Annie :). Wherever you may want to post (that uses VBulletin) you're all set.
Please, never feel reluctant about asking questions, whether it is here or on other forums you might visit. You're surely going to "run into" people willing and ready to help out.
Just ask, okay? It really is okay :).
If I wasn't such a geek-off, I wouldn't have known what I shared. It was that it took me a long time to learn... because, unfortunately, when I first figured out that the Net comprised much more than just E-mail, most hold what they know so close to their hearts. They weren't sharing and I spent a ton ... on tools and learning how to use them. I don't want you or others to have to encounter anything near what I felt: I was at a total loss.
So, one day, you know, it's bound to happen: Someone will come along with a question and you'll share what you know, too. Know why? Just because you know and you'll be wanting to further the know-how :).
