I came down with fibro after an injury in late 70's. Couldn't understand what my doctor was telling me I had that had the word mary in it. Doc has a slow deep drawl, lol. Problem is the fibro wasn't a laughing matter. I had a MIL at the time that had three kinds of arthritis and what did I do? Proceed to overdo it with the walking and exercising. Wrong thing to do as I developed osteoarthritis and eventually perphrial neuropathy. When my neurologist put me on Baclofen it helped my muscles more than thelexeril or any other muscle relaxant did. Soma is great if I didn't mind being ditsy in my head and sleepy so I only take that when I have a pretty serious injury and stay down. Any others on baclofen that have fibro? Or what do you take that works? When I do gentle stretches, that works very well if I do it regularly but still need something else.

I take zanaflex which I think is like baclofen. Seems to help a little. I do tai chi to help with movement and stretching.

Good to hear that. I tried to get into a tai chi class but missed the starting date last time. I'll try and start out with the new ones next time. My SIL is way ahead of me and takes classes at our local, uum, memory block, place where classes are offered for those 55 and over. I qualify, lol. I started out at 48 with their water aerobics because I had arthritis so bad. All I needed was a note from doctor saying I had it and I qualified. Now if my memory would just come back.

Welcome!

I take Zanaflex at bedtime, then maybe one Soma per day (dr's limit) and Parafon forte during the day if I need more muscle relaxors - I've switched from NSAIDS to enteric coated aspirin which seems to work better.

I try to do a lot of stretching and walking and go to the gym a couple times a week for weight training (slow and gentle) and the treadmill. It's really hard to balance enough exercise to keep my weight down and my mind happy vs. hurting myself and ending up with a fibro flare - it's like a constant battle. But I know if i fail to exercise I'm REALLY asking for trouble - mentally and physically.

I'm 50 and have been dealing with this for about 17 years now.

Magnesium Malate and calcium with vit. D seem to help with muscle pain

good luck

Joy, try and get back to the water aerobics at the Senior Center. Exercising in water is really beneficial as you get the movement and strengthening of muscle without the burden of weight bearing. I swim .3 of a mile 3x a week at a local gym and really miss it when I cannot go for some reason. I try to book doctor appointments and other things around my swim time. I sleep better and feel better after I swim even if tired. Cheerio.

 Hi!

I take Baclofen -- 20mg 3 times a day! Have been on it for approx 3 yrs

I have not noticed any side effects... I have been considering changing to something else for a bit..

I also take Darvocett N100 1 every 6 hrs.. ( doesnt always work) New Dr just changed it from 4hrs to 6 ... and no more than 3 a day... We are probably going to have to have a talk because it is working with this dosing schedule.

I have had fibro since 91...

thanks again everyone and I just thought I'd add this (HOW could I forget?LOL). I did love water aerobics but since sometimes I do not feel like driving and I won't unless I'm absolutely fully mentally aware (HA) I took my settlement from injury from box falling and bought a hot tub! Sometimes even the heated pool was too cool for me, can you believe, you can, I know. Even years ago I would catch the hot tub empty at trim gym and get in middle and exercise. So, yep water exercise helps. But even with everything I try, my muscles still hurt. I've been trying to stay ahead of muscle problems since 1977 and when I get ulcers with my PN and have to stay down, it really causes problems both physically and mentally. Thankfully I have not had an ulcer for about two years now. Can't even get into tub when I have one of those things unless I can hang foot over side of tub somehow.
