I was on lexapro for 2 years(20mg). I had some problems when I started taking it but all was good after about 3 or 4 weeks. I think they worked very well. As for getting off of it. I took half(10mg) for 2 weeks 5mg for 2 weeks and 1/2 of 5mg every other day for a week. Had no problems at all. The doc told me to take half dose for 2 weeks then quit. I did this on my own. With a sharp knife or pill splitter.
I went a year with out and things got real bad. I have a new doc now and he does not want to use lexapro, he put me on paxil and zanex as needed.
I think I liked the lexapro better.
Oh I forgot about the feeling worse at certian times in the day. Told doc and he gave me a new scipt. was taking 1 20mg. a day he put me on 10 mg 2 x a day that helped with the down time.
Had a real hard time with zoloft getting on and getting off.

Hi, I am kind of new here too. I took Lexapro for a very short time and had one of the worst med experiences ever. I had muscle spasms, vision was terrible and I couldn't drive, did with one eye but I had kids to take to school so it was terrible, I almost drove off the rode twice. I had tremors and a total reality disconnect and crying jags not to mention about 4 or 5 other symptoms but my symptoms waxed and waned throughout the day. My psych doc told me to quit taking it immediately and it took me about 3 or 4 days to finally get back to *normal*. I was told that with the Lexapro there is a fine line for the dosage. Too much and you go manic, not enough and you go into a depression and have lousy symptoms. I am no doc but just thought that I would let you know what I went through.

I have been on Lexapro at 5 mgs. for 12 days now. It has made me VERY nervous, but I have not felt any benefits yet. And I can't sleep at night. I am wondering what to do. Could it be the wrong meds for me? How is the dose determined? I am very sensitive to medications. Any support is appreciated. It is difficult to be depressed, sick, and waiting for meds to work. Thanks. B.

Hi,
I have never been in here before, but the Lexapro caught my eye.
I am a long time anti-depressant user and lexapro was the worst experience I have ever had. :( I was on it about a week and I literally felt like I was going to jump out of my skin. I also take xanax, low dose. I called my doc the next day and told him the effects I was experiencing and he immediately changed me to a different med. I intend to take this one for as long as I can and deal with withdrawl when the time comes.
The brain zaps happen with my current med if I forget to take it more than 1 day and gets worse as time goes on. I
I think it is the nature of this type of medication. I am just glad to have something that keeps me sane.
Sorry:eek:
Take care all
Kathy
