first off want to apologize for typing...just had surgery, so down to one hand.

i've had rsd since '98. it started in my rt foot/ankle. within the first year, it spread into my whole lower extremeties. i had a scs implanted in '99, it was turned off in '00...to many complications with it (6 surgeries to try and revise). by this time rsd has also spread into my spine. this past mar. had surgery done to remove a rutured cyst in my chest...again the rsd spread. this past year, i've had problems with my arms/hands (rt and left sides). had a emg done approx. 2 months ago...showed carpel and cubicle tunnel on both sides. cubicle tunnel damage was very significant...told if i don't have surgery will loose the use of my arms and hand...if i do have surgery will take at least 2 yrs to regain use of them. just had the left side down...so far so good. forgot to say haven't worked since '99. have any of you experienced this happening...is this common?

just got a call from my primary dr...blood tests from pre-op showed a problem. went to see him on thurs. he says that i now have diabetes...never had a problem with blood sugar levels in the past. have any of you had this happen?

i'm ready to give up. it's bad enough living with my rsd but now having to deal with diabetes...don't know if i can handle another thing.

thanks in advance for any replys and help

Cjay,

Carefully check out the known side effects of all medications you are taking. It may be that one or more of your medications impact the results of blood sugar tests by causing false positives. You may not have diabetes at all. Double check the results by having more blood work done to see if the same numbers come back. Also raise the question with your doctor about medications interferring with the results of the tests.

That is just a hunch on my part, but it is well worth thoroughly checking out. I've had a couple of situations of my own where a doctor told me that certain things could or would not be related to medications, only to learn through subsequent investigation that my suspicions were right on target.

Good luck,
EJ

Hi,

I would definitly get a oppinon from an "Endrogonologist" they deal with diabetes, tyyroid problems etc. I know this because I have "Hypothyroidism" and RSD also and I see one. But Diabetes is much more serious then Hypthroidism. Good luck and keep the faith.

I have also been through the mill over the last 4 years I can't even get into it.

Keep as positive as possible.

Ann..

ej and ann,

thank you both for your suggestions. i'll definitely look into both of them. ej, my dr said that my meds have nothing to do with sugar levels but i think that your thought process sure makes sense. have started 2 new meds in the last year, so i'm going to do some digging into side effects. thanks again
