I'm just wondering how safe it is to "advertise" what drugs are taken for pain releif.
I would feel very uncomfortable sharing "drug intake info" publically here or on any forum.
I see all sorts of posters sharing the fact they take Oxycontin, Oxycodone, Percocete, Norco and other Opiod pain meds.
With more and more people  becoming addicted to these type drugs, stories like here in Oregon area...a deputy Sheriff took his service revolver, held up several Walgrens pharmacies at gun point mid day demanding Oxycontin! Yes, you read this right....a Deputy Sheriff, sunny afternoon!
Guess he's the ONLY one who recieved prompt service from them! LOL. Usual wait time with them is minimum 3 hours.

Most technical/computer savy type people can find your home address and other information as its easy to gain via your email address, information searched over internet. All sorts of ways to gain ones home address info. This alone should scare one from sharing sensitive info.

If you own a home...one could easily gain personal info on where you live just by going to the tax assesors office!
These are public records whenever a deed is recorded in most states.
If not public records....a few dollars does a lot for someone dishonest and wanting some quick cash...happens ALL the time! I know for fact first hand.
Ever wonder where Dr Jerko lives? Just check out his tax records....if he's foolish enough to record the deed to his home in his name...its public record!
We had our mail "gleaned" for a few weeks...had no idea this "person" was taking selected peices of our mail.
She finally had our mail routed to a Postal Net box.
Just filled out a simple form...mail gone! Goes unoticed a few days...too late!
She got 2 boxes of checks and my Visa card. Spent $25,000 of my money in just one week! Purchased a car, diamonds, furniture, appliances and more. She'd alter the routing numbers on the bottom of my checks.
Changing numbers is very easy...make an 8 into a 3 with a razor blade! The new numbers would not come up as stolen. It was a huge mess.
This drug addict turned my life upside down!
The last info this crazy idiot needed was if I'd been taking opiod pain meds...If so....who knows what she would have done to get them!
At this same time she was ID theft of others...she spent a total of $125,000 in 2 weeks. They slapped her hands:eek: but it was ONLY her 13th FELONY CONVICTION! Judge Low, let her go!
It was suggested that the mail carrier had something to do with our case. The post master general told us that 70% of mail theft investigation is internal! I have no idea what that means. But how easy would it be, as a mail carrier to just "sell" a few boxes of checks to her cousin "Bubba" who in turns sells them to Mr Drug Addicts? No way of knowing or tracking this. Only way you can help "protect" youself agains check theft, is to never have them sent to your home...pick them up at your bank!
We learned a huge lesson from this ID theft. Took us years to gain back our once perfect credit. Its been several years now....4? Since that Jan 16 when we logged onto our bank:eek: Phone calls began coming in by the droves when my checks began bouncing. Mad merchants cussing and yelling at me, one guy called me filthy names when the check bounced for $8,500 for computers and equipment I'd supposidly purchased.
I told him he was too excited to make a huge sale...foolish for not making a 10 second call to the bank to make sure the check was good. But he continued yelling his broken english/chinese switching back and forth. I don't blame him for being so angry...but was hard to convince that I did NOT write that check as it was stolen Jan 16th...that day will always remind me of the nightmare we had to go thru...and my health was failing badly...during all this I was suffering severe anemia from a bleeding anuerism (AVM)

No wonder these addicts are so brazen! Crime does pay! I was so angry and upset at our "judicial system" seeing how these guys are not being punished because the jails are too full of more dangerous criminals.
One day she too will join that crowd as her addictions increase and lack of punishment fortifies her.
I just pray she leaves me alone forever....I am terrified of her...she knows everything about me...employment, tax info, medical info, just about everything.... because she'd been gleaning information from our mail for who knows how long. Days? Weeks? Months? We'll never know.
She married a guy she met in prison. Perfect match! They're both Meth addicts. He's been locked up for violent robbery's...all drug driven addictions.

Maybe I'm too paranoid....if leaving a pain clinic I'd probably look behind me for lurkers....same with picking up scripts of such meds....I'd be paranoid.

But thats just my thoughts and may be way out of line here, sorry if anyones offended... I do feel this is something we need to consider.
I'm not trying to scold or shame anyone...I'm just wondering if posters have thought of the safety issues in sharing.

One can never outguess a withdrawing druggie! What will they do next or what lengths will they go to for a few drugs such as opiods?!?!
Drug addicts come in all forms and or packages.
They're not always a long haired toothless wild eye'd haggered looking skank.
They could be a beautiful, impecabbley dressed, respected 35 year old physicians wife. Time, money and drug addiction makes a combo to be feared.

Perfect example....Famous radio host Rush Limbaugh! Very respected, highly educated has/had millions listening to him each day....he was hooked on Oxycontin. He was taking handful of that stuff! Wow! I think he got them from his house keeper...and where was she getting them from? Other clients? Or her shady husband, family members....certainly not gained legally.
Another example close to me. A physician in a Christian hospital, married to physcian, father of 2 boys. Well liked for his bible teachings with growing class. Talked of drug addicts needing self control...how bad they were/are.
He was all a sham...he was/is addicted to Morphine and Demerol.
Got caught, big time. He'd give his patients a shot of the drug....give himself a few CC's, then finish off the rest into his patients. Who would know?
10cc syringe filled to top line....all supposed to be given...instead he'd give himself 8 CC's and the remaining 2 CC's went to the patient....this scenario went on for years or longer....who knows.
He lost all rights to practice medicine in this state, banned from hospitals and clinics....I hope he never gains the priveledge of practicing medicine ever again. He didn't care about sharing his dirty used needle with those who trusted him!
Thankfully this erragont "man" is out selling real estate!
I just hope he's not pilfering thru anyones medicine cabinet!
Another reason these drugs needs to be locked in a safe!
Hope this gives you some things you may want to consider.

PS...I'm posting their police photos. These were taken when they were still half way decent looking a few years ago.

If one wants to put a safety net around their ID ... it is not all that hard.

Sign up to have your bills paid electronically .. either auto debit to debit card, charge card or checking acct or have the bank send the check to the account... most of the big accounts your payments will be converted to a ACH (electronic payment)

Turn off your paper bills .. you can get all your bills on line and print them out. most banks even provide photo-copies of your cancelled checks on line.

Use a credit card or debit card for most all purchases - preferable a credit card - since it has lost protection.

Tell the credit bureaus that you don't want unsolicited credit card sent to you.

Don't put outgoing mail in your mail box with personal information.. put your utility bill out with a check in it and if stolen .. they have a great deal of info about you.

You can check your bank account or credit card account on line - daily if necessary - if it makes you feel better ... most are updated at least overnight..

I went "paperless" the start of 04 and the mail in my mailbox is mostly down to magazine subscriptions.. last year... I wrote THREE MANUAL/PAPER CHECKS.

I have been doing electronic payments via the bank since 1994 and have a total of THREE PAYMENTS messed up in all those years... two were the fault of the vendor - for not properly/timely debiting my account when they were authorized to and the other was the bank's fault - they sent the right check - right amount to the right vendor ... BUT .. put someone else's name & vendor account number on the check.. it was straightened out .. but .. no one has come up with a valid reason why it happened other than a computer glitch.

I don't have to worry about the checks not getting there on time. I don't have to worry about having postage, I don't have to worry about someone hi-jacking my bills in the mail..

Thanks Steve. My husband is very technical engineer type person.
We learned a valuable lesson that year.
We were mostly doing most transactions with our cards, but I just ordered my own checks for that once in awhile need.
Our mailbox is Fort Knox model 1/4 inch steel, barrel lock, drop slot.
Its steele post is buried in 3 feet of concrete...so it would take a stick of dynomite to get to it.
PO Box for us is unsafe for us....long story..plus having a home office its hard to spend time on the road getting to the PO.
Our banking is checked morning and night most time.
No credit can be given without calling from our home phone.
This gets me into trouble whenever I go to town to shop.
I'll get a phone call "Cheryl...you've already spent $328! What did you buy, how much more are you going to be doing....stop it now!"...Gosh, the good old days...gone forever! What happened to the time we could sneak that hat into the closet, claim we'd gotten it last years clearance rack....LOL!
Can't a girl be sneaky once inawhile?!
I'm just thankful "Stuff Mart" carries goodies as well as groceries.
If anyone has any ID theft questions....just ask me here...my hubby is very knowledgable regarding this...he's such a smart man! But stupid as well!
The fall prior to the theft, we'd gone to the home show. I wanted to purchase the smaller version of the Fort Knox mail box as I worried about mail theft...our home sits up on a knoll, long, long driveway....can hardly see the mail box from my upstairs window. He didn't want to shell out the $250 "special" they were offering at the show. I kept pushing him, trying to persued him to get it....he got mad, we got into fight....left the show fighting over my wanting to spend that much money on a mail box when we've lived here 14 years and no one in our area had any theft problems...this place is Mayberry! LOL! Not really...but down a lonley road, off the beaten path its just not going to happen! Less than 3 months later....we were hit big time.
It took Larry over 80 hours of time just to have each check signed off, affidaevit signed witness by 2 people and recorded by a notory....$4 each one! Finally convinced Wells Fargo to wave this fee. But add up the hours taken time off from work! 2 weeks vacation! A whole lot more than that mail box special....comparison....a steal of a deal!
We did make the 6'oclock news,as our story was big stuff here in the woods! Oh boy! What a way to get your mugg on TV!
The frauders even came up our driveway one day a few weeks later....what brass ones! I did a lot of leg work to get her arrested. I'd taken a brochure with pictures of the rings she purchased at the Jewlery store....was telling the jewler they'd saved $ all year...finally getting a nice set...$2,000 for her, $1,700 for his. ONLY because of this picture...the ID her as the theif...I faxed the photo at 3 am when they finally got onto them up in another state. Oregon refused to take the car as stolen. Because it was't stolen! She used my credit to purchase it.....$6,500 GMC Jimmy, switched plates, sprayed it Hill Billy Chrome on top of the white. I was livid with the police dept! They adivised me that maybe I should insure the car because after all...it was in my name! That did it!
I better stop ranting...my BP is rising! I won't even go into what the man did at the Postal Net Store when he learned i was NOT the person who opened that box...refused to let me have MY mail...called police on me, locked me inside his store....demaned I be arrested for attempted mail theft! OF my own mail! WHAT!???? I just about went bullistic over this...the police were understanding....then were going to arrest him for kidnapping me:D by locking me within his store....then let him go...while outside he came out whining...wanting to know if the $200 check she wrote was going to be covered...ha ha! NO WAY! I was not going to let my bank cover that jerks check...so ha ha! Being a jerk that day did not pay off for him that time! I loved it...felt finally...Karma really does happen! So we didn't ever have the check covered...he lost $ and I feel he deserved it cuz he was sooo wrong!
Anyway...I did rant....if you have any questions...my hubby more than happy to help....he's been teaching others in our church and his work within Motorola how to protect themselves...there's a lot of work you need to do to protect your @$$ets! But so worth it!
crytears.
PS....what about posting info about the pain meds people take!?

 One of guys from husbands work got a call from his bank, B of A. They said someone had attempted ID theft on his account...needed info immediatly! He felt something fishy about that call....they pressured for more info....confirmed with his information...they had all his numbers, SSI and all!
Turns out it was a frauder trying to get his ID..
He'd been well protected....doesn't know where they got his numbers from.

You are right about the dangers that are out there but to help each other out I am willing to take a reasonable risk by posting my meds. You have been hit with a nightmare scenario and it is a worry. One year we had a mail carrier keeping mail and fortunately she didn't use any of it for ID theft but the post office investigated to see if anyone had been harmed. So even before the mail gets to us, we are at risk.

I just try to live by taking reasonable risk and not worrying about things that might happen while taking care to make the job harder for theives.

A few ideas:

If one is active in health-related forums online and includes info. about medications being taken (and is worried about possible theft, etc.) it would be prudent not to cite personal info. in, e.g., forum profiles.

In my posts, no one can discern my location or home address - by anything I've posted publicly or privately in health forums.

I don't cite my location, my date of birth, and so on; at times, I've shared the state where I reside, but never my city or town.

My name is also not associated directly with any E-mail account (used online) for which I am billed.

I've yet to create an online profile (within any forum) that would enable anyone (with criminal intent) to locate me or pay a visit to the tax assessor's office.

If one has a domain, I'd make certain that the registrant info. does not lead anyone straight to my house. (Use a business address or private domain registration.)

You may wish to look at the info. posted within a profile to see if you might wish to edit (some out).

:).
