My Husbands cousin just had his first child whose name is Logan. When he was born it was a difficult birth, the cord was around his neck and he was blue his Apgar was 3 his kidneys and liver had started to shut down. They were able to revive him and his Apgar went up to 6. 24 hours after birth he started having seizures and an EEG showed some dead brain tissue. The Doctors are pleased that he has let them know (loudly) that he does not like them poking and prodding on him. That is all I know for now will update as I learn more. He is at York Hospital in PA. Keep the prayers going.

He is out of the incubator and eating and going to the bathroom on his own. They say he doesn't appear to have CP but will have some problems with vision, as that is one part of the brain that is damaged. They are weaning him off the Phenobarbital to have him on the lowest dose to stop the seizers.

Just curious...Why phenobarb? I understand it's one of the last AEDs docs want to give infants now, due to the possibility of learning issues. I started phenobarb at 6 mo and have been on-and-off of it for about half my life, all-told (back on as of June   ), and I do have some learning disabilities, but of course, I'm 40 yo, and no one knows if they're due to phenobarb or my hydro, but I know it was said about 8-10 years ago that phenobarb is a last resort.

It was the only one that worked and he was having constant seizers.

Thank you for the news, please keep us updated as you hear. Baby Logan has been in my thoughts and prayers. I'll hope for better and better news to come.

Thank you for letting us know how baby Logan is doing. I will keep him in my prayers MaryEvelyn. I am glad the seizures have stopped. But it's sad about his vision being impaired. Like Mili I am hoping for better and better news to come.
