Cry Tears

Hi all...as you can recall, a few months back, our little Scotty, Thistle passed on in my husbands arms.
We've been toying with getting another Scotty Dog....but we've got 3 cats in this house, 1 big old lady Black Lab, and board a few horses on our 3 acres.
I travel with hubby and take Lab Satin with us as she's my service animal. She helps me with emotional support. She even flys on major airlines INSIDE the plane....sitting by my feet at take off/landings. She's a perfect traveler.
So having a little puppy will change things for us as we won't be able to take her with us. My husbands corporation dictates where he stays when traveling and its always either the Marriot, or higher end hotels like that....and they are soooo anti animals...but forced under federal laws they must allow Satin to stay there...she's always a good girl and they enjoy her visits.
I'd have to leave the puppy home if I want to go with him.
I don't want to leave a puppy at home....so this will force me to stay home and not be able to get away....what a cycle! Ya go, ya don't go!
Ya stay home Scotty style!
Anyway....this is a life time committment....my husband is battling more mouth cancer, my health is failing...but these little clowns add so much to our lives! Everyone loves a Scotty!
I held the little 8 week old puppy for an hour last night. He's got a white patch on his chest...just like my other Kiltie girl I lost traggically...she got poisend when I put out slug bait in my prized flower bed! My heart got broken big time. I sobbed for hours during the night for months.
After her death, I poured plant killer over every single flower...turned it into a huge barran patch of dirt. I then had it all dug up, put in a huge KOI pond a few years later....having flowers there would never be the same.
NEVER put out Cory's slug bait pellets....a few will poisen your baby! I wasn't thinking...besides Kiltie was an inside doggie....but not that morning!
Anyway....this little guy has my gears turnging. I did have my heart set on a girl....but no girls can be found....I mean ones from a reputable breeder.
So....should I get the little boy...or hold out for a girly?
Hope everyones having a good day!
Blessings, Cheryl

Hi Cheryl, I have to figure that if this puppy was "it" you wouldn't need to ask this question cause you would already have brought him home!

I'm gonna suggest you check out Scottie rescues, perhaps find a young dog-already crate/potty trained but still with alot of years left. And if you want a female, then get a female. Maybe a nice dog who's owner has passed on or whatever, needs a home & all the love you & family can provide.

Hubby might not be ready to replace Thistle just yet?? And if you get a puppy you will be tied down, if you put your trust into someone else to care for the puppy when you travel & the care isn't 100% (like leaving it out for coyote bait), you'll have alot of grief & anger to deal with!

So maybe wait-when it's the right dog you will know it! Just my 2 cents....Buttons

P.S. Having said that, just go with your heart, I had no business adopting my big mutt-but I knew it was something I "had" to do!

Rags is yer lil fur monkey big time! Bet you cuddle him like a long lost puppy!
I did contact Scotty Rescue when Butterscotch died....they don't have much in the way of "Scotty's for Rent!"
Not many people get rid of a Scotty once they have one!
I do like the idea of one thats already "trained"....and a whining, yelping, crying puppy.....ug...the thought alone makes to tired!
Who wants to take a puppy pee-pee @ 4 AM in 30* weather!
Feeding the dang horses at dinner time is hard enough!
I just don't know...I'll take hubby for a look n see...if the little boy is still there. Time.....will tell!
Thanks for your inputz...cheryl

hi cheryl

well since you asked, lol. i think i'd wait. you still do have some cold weather and your older dog may need some big time attention before long. i also like the ideal of being able to travel without having to worry about animals. you can leave enough food, water and kitty litter out for cats and be gone a very long time without much supervision if any. but dogs need constant checking up on. i miss having a cat so bad but still have one old dog so he's getting all my attention (and money that might need to be paid out for his care) at this time. plus it is nice to just stay in bed when i feel bad. now if you didn't have anything to get you up and going, i might say otherwise.

but if you are like most, you'll do what you want anyway, lol.

hope everything is at least partly sunny up your way. my son used to always say partly sunny. it was never partly cloudy. of course he always woke up with a smile back then. that is until his hormones kicked in when he got older!
