from the doctor. I went into see him since I had some abnormal blood work done. He first sent me to get more labs and then had me come back and get the B-12 shot. I was hoping to feel better right away, but I've been reading alot here on B/T and it looks like it might take a while.
He also said that I'm two pints low on blood (no sign of where that went) and that my potassium is low. When he gets the blood work back today he said he might need to admit me to the hospital. This is something I'm not looking forward to.
Anway thanks for all of the information posted on here and I hope to be one of the people that can say that B-12 honestly saved me.

Hi Lisa....wow...good you're getting the B12....shots...wow!
I read a bit ago...here on BT...that the Methyl B12, sublingual worked much better than shots! And less painful. I do hope that link can be found and someone will paste it here in this thread.
I has a 2+ years bout of severe anemia...my Hemaglobin would get down to low as 5.1 hgb...thats way too low!
I was wanting to eat, smell and taste shoe polish when I got a few pints low...too funny...its called Picca.
Happens to many who are anemic...but usually the wanting to chew ice...or dirt...mine was shoe polish! Geek!

They always put me in the hospital and gave me a few units of blood....I always felt much better after I got them.
You probably are pretty wiped out from having low hemaglobin....its the red blood cells that carry oxygen to your brain and body....so when you're low, you don't get enough oxygen to the muscles...thats why you feel so fatigued! The B12 sometimes takes a few days to "kick" in.
When I was very B12 def...it took 10 days to make a difference.
I took only the Methyl B12....sure made a huge difference in my life!
I'd take it over chocolet!:D  :D
Hope you feel well soon!
Blessings....cheryl

Hi,Lisa. I also am glad that you are getting the shots.I've been getting them monthly for about 1 1/2 yrs now.Sometimes I get very tired after getting it, sometimes I'm ok.Did the Dr. tell you how low you were in B12.If you can, get a copy of your blood tests, it's good to always get copies.I also take two 5000 mcg of Methylcobalamin,b12 in tablet form once a day. They actually taste good, you let them disolve under the tongue.Rose can give you alot more info than I can.She is the best for this information.Boo

I hope you will be helped. Be aware that a difference can rarely take many months to make itself obvious. Days to weeks is a more common response time.

Even oral B12 in one of the older forms (even the oldest and least efficient: cyanocobalamin) taken daily in doses of 1000 mcg (not timed release) is better for many people than the usual shots regimen.

And methylcobalamin is even better. Very important difference for some.

Also, remember that many peopole who malabsorb B12 also malabsorb iron to a lesser degree. And it is common for the body to draw heavily on iron and potassium while working on repairs.

Best wishes,
