I just sent off the boys applications and enrollment fees for next summer.

I have been in email contact with Cyndy, one of the camp Directors. We are going to spend a Saturday night there to see what we think of Spency spending an ENTIRE week away from us.

Both boys can go. I am excited yet nervous. Ok, ok, yes, I am referring to next summer. But, hey, why not get a little anxious now about Sending my Spencer away to a new place for an entire week.

I just left a message for Danielle aka 6yearmed student. She spent a couple of summers as a camp counselor there.

That looks cool, Bec. I bet they'll have fun!! Will the boys be able to room together? WOW, a whole week alone... what will you and Kev find to do? :D

Actually, the boys will each have a separate cabin and separate activities.

For kids with Special Needs, they have 1 Counselor per child. For typical kids, they have 1 Counselor per 3 children.

I just got off the phone with my friend and neighbor Lynn. You may remember I went to Chicago with her in March? If the boys go to CB the end of June, her kids will be in Kentucky with her parents the same week.

What would we do? We would take a train to Chicago and have an extended double date. :D

Now, Kevin just needs a job where he gets paid vacation so he won't refuse to go saying he can't afford to take the time off. So, send "paid vacation" thoughts and prayers to Kevin.

Oh Bec, That would be fabulous if the boys could go there! :D First time I ever heard of Camp Barnabas was last year when I was at Tracy's house and "Extreme Home Makeover" gave the camp a whole new look, it was AWESOME, remember that Trac??!!! You were busy getting Megan and Jacob ready for bed and you were in and out of the livingroom. But when I saw that it just left a lump in my throat and I was in awe over it! I think they redid the place where the kids stayed plus Mr. and Mrs. Barnabas house. Isn't the camp located in Mossouri??

Oh I Pray this works out for the boys, what an expirience it would be!!! So siblings can stay too?? That is so cool!! Let us know what you find out. Check it out good, "Aunt" Robin wants the boys to be safe!!

Camp Barnabas has been proposed to us as well and while I'm not comfortable with Emily going yet, it's a thought for down the road.

Wouldn't it be cool if someday Spencer and Em were there together?

Paula,

That would be very fun for them. We could even end up meeting there as we drop off and pick up. :D

I asked Spencer's teachers and therapists about Spencer spending an entire week at camp away from us.

His teacher and some of his therapists say it will be really good for him and he will enjoy it.

His Speech Path is concerned that it is a long time for a 6 yo to spend away from home even if brother is there. That is why we are going to go down on a Saturday and check it out. I thought it would give the owners a chance to meet Spencer and tell us if they think he is ready.

In the meantime, I will send them a monthly check for the camp.

Paula, how far away are you from the camp?

We're nearly 5 hours away, which is a lot further than I'm comfortable with at this point. She just turned 5 last month, so I think she's a little young yet.

I'll be interested to see what you have to write about it after your Saturday visit, though.

Paula,

The site says they want the children 7 yos old and up. We talked about Spencer is going to turn 6 next March. This is the main reason why we want to have a visit to see if Spencer at just over 6 yo would be mature enough to enjoy the experience.

Since Emily just turned 5 last month, she is still on the young side. I certainly can see why you want to hold off. Maybe summer of 2008 since she would be very close to 7 at that time.

They have a Doctor on staff to care for the children.

Wow, I'm jealous. That place looks amazing!! I'm sure they will have a load of fun. How far away from you is it?

That looks really neat!

Riley is old enough to go to Victory Junction Camp this coming summer, but I am not sure that I can send her out for a week... yet..

Can't wait to hear about your weekend visit!
