Ive tried them all.Sleep aids, that is.I've just tried the ambein cr.I dont find it gets me to sleep as fast as regular ambein and I wake a few hrs later, just as with the regular.I have also used Restoril(tamazepam)it will get me to sleep if I get the comfort right etc.But my big prob.is waking through the nite.I go to bed about 9 ,fall out between 9-10,ready for breakfast at 3am.Then I take a tylenol pm ,put a history show or documentry on,very low and if you get the right voice,I can fall back for another couple hrs,I have many arthritic problems in back, knees, feet, hips that are usually the culprits for awaking me.I'm on various pain meds for over 5 yrs, along with cortisone shots and other pain mgt.procedures
Any sleep aid information ,sleep tricks are appreciated.Backless

Please don't take it and read the reports about it on the internet, watch the reports on the Televisoin . I just quit it a few weeks back, after blacking out & wrecking my car. Might have had something to do with it...maybe not. I think it did! It made me terribly sick and I was having bouts of eating and not even knowing what I was doing at night. Personally know aother person that used it and was almost sleep walking, drove to work and didn't remember getting there. She was beginning to have memory loss, which I am having. Each day is a little better and yet I have a ways to go. Use caution please.

backless- I agree with slofo- I don't think you should continue to take it.
I take ambien, but have no problems with it....I take it only as a last resort, like if I haven't slept good or at all for a few days...BUT my father took it, and he had EVERY bad side effect...it was really horrible and scary...
After going to sleep classes, having all the sleep tests, going to specialists, several meds, etc....20 years of BAD, BAD insomnia....
What I found worked better than anything is, I sleep when I can....Two hours here, four hours maybe 10 hours later...you get the picture...it's probably not very good advice...I'm just letting you know what finally worked for me...I just get out of bed if I can't sleep....maybe move to the couch or recliner.....read for awhile...jeez, sounds kinda crazy, doesn't it? BUT, I'm finally getting some quality rest after so many years of declining health, etc.
Please let us know how you are doing......

I have taken Ambien, Ambien CR and Restoril. I still had trouble going to sleep, but the real problem is I would eat like a horse and never remember it.
The last time I took it, I almost raped my husband. He said I was wild. I don't remember this either. I don't know about you, but if I am having a good time, I would like to remember it. I have decided I will sleep when my body gets tired enough, but I am not taking anything that makes me unable to control myself. I know that I need a good nights sleep, but I think I need peace of mind even more.

I absolutely agree, I don't take anything that makes me unable to control myself, either. That can lead to dangerous things.
The people I know that take ambien without problems take it in bed, never get out of bed, and can stay in bed for around 7-8 hours, and they have no problems. (basically they don't wake up, so there is little chance of having any dangerous behaviors) But more and more people I know seem to not be able to do this. A hypnotic med works very differently on different people. We all must be careful.
Also, ambien can interact with alot of things....you're supposed to take it on an empty stomach...probably shouldn't take it with other sedating meds, etc..some people wake, take more, and forget they did it. Or, they stay in bed for only 4-5 hours, or they take it then stay up for a couple hours. If you do any of this, the chances of problems are pretty high. But I realize, we cannot control everything, and the med is a hypnotic so we sometimes do these things without being aware.
I guess in the end, if you have any problems, you just shouldn't take it. It is a much more potent and strong med than anyone I think thought in the beginning. In Europe, it was actually over the counter for years.! I still remember the problems my father had on it...OH BOY!
P.S. I know a couple of people that take a very small dose of ativan a couple of hours before they go to bed. It goes through the system fast. It relaxes the body and mind so sleep may be easier. But, ya it's another med. But much milder than ambien for alot of people. Insomnia is a very common complex problem.
I hope backless and female hank 1 find some answers. Not sleeping is horrible!
