I went to the hospital and took the breathing test required by disability. It was the test where you put a clothes pin on your nose then take a large breath of air and then blow out for as hard and long as possible. This was done without the bronchial dilator and also after using it. I asked the lady what normal people usually blow so I would know how I did. She said a normal score on the test was 70% to 75%. I asked her how I did and she said 32% before medicine and 35% after using my combivent which is a dilator. She said I am able to breath less than half of what I should at my age. She said that would show I am disabled if I cant breath well. Anyway I hope within a week I will have been approved. My doctor cant believe they haven't approved me yet but feel age may be a reason. If you don't know my conditions they are: born with Hirschsprung's disease so they removed my large intestines at birth, first scoliosis lumbar three vertebra fusion at age 7. Car accident with broken pelvis, brain injury at 16. Received Hep B thru blood transfusion during that time also. Had major 360 spine fusion from T4 to pelvis in 1988 with 17" Harrington rods. Broken fibula and tibia from car accident in 1992, re broke tibia and fibula in 1993 to straighten and reset leg. Broke Harrington rod in 1999. Had to have re fusion with another major 360 spine fusion with two new rods and two pedicle screws because of pseudoarthrosis or Non Union of spine. Chronic pain started in 1992 and I take Duragesic patch now but previously I was on Avinza. Found out in 2000 I had what is called an urethral stricture which means I have scar tissue which blocks urine from coming out. I have had three cystotomy surgeries since 2000 to remove urethral stricture. In October I had to have surgery to release the carpel tunnel nerve because right hand is numb. I plan on having a complete urethral reconstruction in March if everything goes ok but I will need to travel to Virginia for this. Anyway I am hoping this entire SSD nightmare will soon be over. I am tired of having to worry about meds and doctor bills. thanks, Brian
