I've read a few posts on here which mentioned the endocrine system. So, I looked it up and what it did. Cool stuff I never knew before. But I thought to myself, "If this tumor is affecting my endocrine system, what will happen when that 'cause' is removed"? Will there be a sudden "rebound" in my body? Or will my body slowly change over time? If anyone knows more about this, I'd love to hear it.:D

Hi, Dave -- I'm going to see my endocrinologist next Monday for my annual check-up. This will be the first time I've seen him since my brain surgery, so I'm curious to see what he says about it. I will let you know if it's anything interesting or relevant.

Take care, Hope

(I see him for two reasons. One is that I'm hypothyroid and take medication daily to stay on balance. The other is that I had half my thyroid removed a few years ago because I had a nodule the size of an egg in it. They had to remove it before they could confirm it was benign.)

Hi hopeful, interesting.... did you also have a colloid cyst removed too?, because in 1972 I had the craniotomy for the colloid cyst and in 1985 I had a Hurthle cell adenoma removed along with most of my thyroid...

Hi, Chunky, and thanks again for sharing your awesome, very encouraging story! Your story blessed both my husband and me. Yes, I had two craniotomies in May for my colloid cyst. The first time they popped, drained and cauterized it, but it started re-inflating while I was still in the hospital. The second time (10 days later) they cut it into quarters. I just had a follow-up appointment with my neurosurgeon on Jan. 3, and it's still there, in some form, but not causing any problems. My thyroid nodule was called a "follicular adenoma." My endocrinologist appointment is Jan. 22, and I'll post anything interesting from that appointment here. Thanks again and take care! Hope

Hi Hopeful, we sound a lot a like only I had my cyst removed right away..it seems today they don't go in as fast as they did with mine. Along with my thyroid tumor in 1996 I had a detached retina which I attributed to the swelling of the optic disc when I first had the brain tumor; which in turn cause the retina to become weak.. that is just my theory and I am sure some MD would argue with me on it. Altho I am very near sighted which is also a risk of detached retina. I had a "scleral buckle"; a piece of plastic inserted to reattach the retina. Everything was in black and white in that eye until I had emergency surgery to repair it.
NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER GIVE IN!!!

Hi again -- I had my annual appointment with my endocrinologist today. No relation between colloid cysts and thyroid imbalances (such as hypothyroidism). I also asked about the nodule in my thyroid and the colloid cyst, and asked if some people are just prone to having cysts; he said that he has seen that in his practice, and agrees that some people probably are genetically predisposed to having cysts in various parts of their body. Take care, Hope

I figured that is what he would say.. everyone is cautious about making assumptions of who is prone to any given anomaly I do agree with the last part of his assumption as I had a dermoid cyst removed from my ovary and 3breast cysts over a period of 5 years. Thanks for keeping me updated best of luck to you
