View Full Version : I have a question about external hard drives...
I got a new external hard drive for Christmas to store my pictures on. I want them off my computer so it will run faster and won't clog up my memory.
I laborously moved them to folders on the EHD and got up the nerve to delete them from my main hard drive. Only guess what? they are on both now. I do not want them on my main hard drive.
How can I get it to stop copying them back to my computer?
Thanks,

Do you have it set so that the external is syncing with your computer's hard drive? If so, discontinue or turn-off that option.

Or you may have to laboriously delete each pix (or files of pix)
from the 1st drive. Then defrag (and whatever else you can do)
to clean it up
Thanks, Bobbi and Bob. I don't know if it is syncing or not, probably is as I remember it asking me if I wanted to but I have NO idea how to get to where you turn it off!
I will try deleting them again and defrag if I can't get it worked out. I don't think that will help since I laboriously transferred them to the new drive! I checked and double checked to make sure I didn't lose any. Then I open pictures on main drive, which should have been empty and there they were! right where I moved them from!
Thanks,
Carol/Bama~

Moving the files may have just copied them without removing them from the first drive. Just like dragging and dropping to a CD or floppy will only make a copy and leave the original in its place. Probably, you have some feature that will not let you cross over from one drive to another completely, but will only allow you to copy when you try to transfer.
Does it do the same thing in the opposite direction?
Might be interesting to give it a try.
Create a file (that is not on your original drive) and try to move it from your new drive to the old one.
Hey, Bob. Yes it does try to transfer stuff back to my main hard drive. I just click No to all. I will get one of my children or grandchildren to help me figure it out. I am lazy, if I can get help without asking them or reading directions I do so!
Thanks again,
Izzy~
