Mu sister-inlaw is trying to re-install Windows 98SE and will only install up to the last 10 min, and then it stops and will not continue..

She's been installing it from Run and doing it from the D:/ setup.exe

What can she do or what is she doing wrong and wants to know how she can get the d*** thing to work...lol

Thanks so much LA

What's she trying to reinstall from?
Her hard drive, an old set of floppies, a CD?
Is it an MSoft original, a copy of the pgm,
or a downloaded one from a web site? (which site?)
It could be a corrupted version. Not eveything on the net works.

If its a DL- Still could be corrupted.
Have her install directly from the original MSoft program CD,
She may have to uninstall first, though.
Don't know exactly how that should be accomplished..
Maybe someone else will chime in on this.

LA - have her run setup from the CD. Rarely does an install go clean running it from within windows. She may also be running out of hard drive space trying to install it from windows. Or if she's trying to go back to 98 from ME forget it.

sounds like she'll have to reformat from a boot disc first. She'll have to back up what she wants to keep BEFOREhand.
or as nide44 said bad disc.

Just a note: 98 and 98SE will ask for the *** number early in the installation process. If the number is invalid it will continue through copying all the files, then fail when at the end (when it is time to create the registry etc.)

There's a way to find the registration code, my stepson did it once. I remember that all he did was look through all the files on the CD and he found it in a certain file name (I think) and then we used that, to copy a pgm (Office 2000-I think it was. I had 'borrowed' a copy from a friend).
