Hi guys!
I have a Mac Powerbook G4 running OSX v.10.3.9 256 MB SDRAM. I'm starting a new job where I'll be staying in hotels, and I know most have internet access. I want to take my computer with me. I asked one time and was given a card, but it was for a windows machine. They had nothing for a Mac.

I don't want to seem like a complete idiot when checking in. Do you guys know anything about this? Is there a Universal card that would fit into my laptop or an airport card of some kind? If so, do they install it? Is there a plug in for DSL in the rooms so all I would have to do is plug in like I do at home, or would that just be too easy??

Does anyone know? HELP!! Thanks in advance!
Hugs,
Jan

I don't have a Powerbook. Maybe someone else, who either has one or who knows more about them, will come along. (My Mac is desktop and I use dial-in for it.)

What I would do is contact or visit an Apple dealer near you and ask. Don't worrry about feeling like an "idiot." You're not. An idiot wouldn't ask :).

One way you can be sure your Powerbook will work is if the hotels offer internet access that is dial-in (as long as you or the hotel have an established dial-in account) and you take a phone cord with you or the hotel supplies one.

Here is one site, of many, that offer wireless Mac products; and I'd be sure to read the specs/requirements:

Thanks for the reply Bobbi.

I just talked to the "Geek" people from the hotel's Computer Support. They said all I need is a USB (or any) airport card that is compatible with my laptop to connect to any wireless Internet. I asked about the cross platform. (Mac) She said that has nothing to do with it. Well, now I know. You learn something new every day!

I thought I'd share the information.

My Mac desktop is cross-platform. As far as I know, that capability extends solely to whether you want to write data/files so that they are also readable on a PC.

I'd still speak with someone very familiar with Apples and your model of computer :). I'd hate to see you get to the hotel(s) to face possible disappointment. She may be right. As I said, I'm not familar with G4s.
