I want to warn others that a lurker logged onto BT and PM a lot of us users.
After wishing us Happy New Years and other nicey solutaions;
They included links to their "Religeous" convictions such as Buddahism, Reincarnation, Near Death experiences....etc.
Although I beleive we all have a right the freedom of worshiping anyone or any"thing" we wish.
I do worry about this type of solitication here on this type of forum and do not appretiate this type of "spaming" me here on Braintalk forum via Private messages.
I don't know who this Kaneweber is and wonder if their links carry viruses that could wipe out my hard drive should my protectors not be able to cover.
And what do they care if I have a Happy New Year or not?!?! Its just absolutly stinky! Like "Thank You for Shopping K-Mart, Have a Nice Day! Smile God Loves you!"
They dont give a rip about me. They just used braintalk to try and convince me of their religeous beleifs.
What if I did this with my religion? Trying to convince you that my secret invisible god is bigger than your invisible secret god!
Its purely uncalled for and I wish there was a way to stop this type of using our braintalk forums.
Dealing with seriuos illness is hard enough....adding a lurker who has ill intentions or trying to pursude me of their beleifs is not well received on my end here and only caused me to feel much disguist with this type prothelatation (SP?...sorry)
They never posted or started a thread....all they did was PM a bunch of people and post numerous links.
Anyone else get that PM? What are your thoughts?
Is there a way to keep them from doing this again?
Perhaps by not allowing to PM others till they've reached a certain status, such as being a member for 30 days. plus posting so many or so will stop this type?
Inputz anyone my fellow BT members!

Yes crytears, I suppose I got caught - I didn't read the link, but replied to the PM - stupid me - Thanks for bringing this to light, I'll be wiser next time it happens.
Have a nice day anyway.

I also responded after assuming the person knew me but I did not remember them- guess I am an *** after all! Let's get the moderators involved since I too got the link with all the religious and political info.

Thanks for being brave enough to post about this-:)!

Look what happened to my mouse when I foolishly logged onto one of their links. It wiped out my mouse....I was able to take a photo of it.
You MUST check it out. Next time I'll be wiser and more careful
You just don't know their motives...could be benign...or could be a serious virus attactched to one of their links.
But they got me, big time! Cheryl
The photo of what happened, shows just how dangerous this could be!
I'm posting it for you to see, learn and laugh!

Howdy Crytears!

I didn't look at your photos...

This is because I don't know you and
I don't download files from people I don't know!

That's my general security policy.

as you can see I've been a BT member for some time and was a member for over 2 years before the crash.
I have loads of virus protectors installed into our computers. A must around this house cuz my husbands an engineer building 911 systems for a major communications company....so there's no viruses in the photos I've taken and posted here on BT. I do this to share with a few freinds I've made here within the forums.
You'd think long standing members posted photos would be rather safe to look at...but its all up to you....I'm not offended...its your call...ya gotta do what ya gotta do especially if you're not updated in virus protections.
What I do find unsafe is getting a PM spam from a person who's never posted, then putting up numerous links within the PM. Who knows what dangerous lurkers will do.
Blessings, cheryl

Since when is it harmful to look at pictures here?

I thought they appeared in the format that crytears has when they are
posted in a thread...when there is more than one.

If she had posted one pic...like this...would it be a risk?

I can recall JL saying that one cannot get "anything" harmful from here.

But I do agree that clicking on links is dangerous. That is why I do not
use the hyper link format to share informational posts. I only put up legit suggestions, and after I have gone there myself. I have yet to "catch" anything.
I only post full length URLs so people know where they are going in a link, before clicking.

Edit.... Okay, now I see that the format has not been changed to show pictures. NeuroTalk changed the "link" view to a thumbnail form..and since it uses this
same software, but that capability has not been turned on here. It only shows one picture however. Our old version WAS turned on for one picture to show. BTW
the view of a picture is only active for members, not guests.

When looking at attachments here, are we really "downloading" them? They do not appear in my "downloads file" and I do not get a prompt that they
are downloading in the real sense. I thought we were just viewing them on the Braintalk database?
Has something changed?

somewhere in the world a 13 year old is figuring out a way to place malicious code on your computer when you view a graphic.

i trust you, i mean you personally, and your links. have used a great many of them over the years to my great profit.

but i know that there is no such thing as complete safety on the internet.

Attachments that are uploaded to BrainTalk server are stored there. When you click to view them they are being shown from the server.

There is a copy downloaded onto your hard drive. Everything you see on the screen gets downloaded and saved on your hard drive. Your settings determine how much (size wise) and how long it stays there.

Attachments that are uploaded to another site act in the same way.

So yes technically you are downloading the attachements to your computer.

Typically they can be found in /windows/temporary_internet_files folder.
