 I was trying to apply for unemployment benifits, long story, but I just found out that I could get them again. The applications and files and everything are all online, making it easy for me, all that needed to be done was for them to okay it at the local office.
That is were I ran into the problem, because some people are naturaly a real *** to others, and shouldnt have jobs like that working with the public. The lady started by talking to me like I am a idiot, like there is no way I should get unemployment even that I qualify for it, then it turned into her yellling at me, like she wanted to start a fight with me, she was threatening me, like I am a thief or something trying to scam them. Eventualy she said that she needed to go talk to her supervisor, so she went to talk to the supervisor, and when she came back she was as nice as could be, and said that she started my unemployment up for me. Talk about jekyll and hyde, I am happy that I (I think) I am getting unemployment compensation, but that lady had me soooooooo mad, and embarrassed, my face was very red. Surprisingly my mom stayed calm, luckily, or I would have just walked away

ARGH! There are just no words... http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz236/Aspigander/Emoticons/ExplodingHead.gif

Glad that it seems you're getting unemployment benefits, though. Would this, by some chance, include medical coverage?

UGH! Sorry for the hassle...it does seem that those types of jobs typically employ people that have no business holding them...likely because the more suitable people are getting paid more at better places in similar roles (like customer service or whatever).

But glad you are getting some income!!!!

How strange...not that she acted like that-some government employees are just awful that way...but strange that she had such an aboutface after talking to her supervisor.
Maybe she calls the bathroom her supervisor and felt better when she dealt with her constipation!

I am also looking for a job, as you have to be looking for a job while getting unemployment compensation (the lady felt like she had to repeat that 20 times to me)
Would this, by some chance, include medical coverage?
no, at least it didnt the other times I had got unemployment compensation. That is a whole other problem, that I will hopefuly solve by getting a job with health benefits (if I can find a job :p)

I have tried applying at all the stores in the area, for anything in receiving, stocking, maintenance, non sales stuff. You can apply online for most of them, but I did not hear back from any of them, and this was a couple weeks ago. I tried jc pennys, sears, kmart, target, walmart, barns and noble (my favorite store, I love going to b&n!), and other stores I am not thinking of right now.
I am not sure were I was going to go from there, like if someone called to set up a interview, what I would do then, but I figured I would just take it step by step and figure it out as I go, and if I didnt get the job, then no big deal.

All the jobs I have had before I have got threw someone else, mostly family, but the problem was that I ran out of family that was willing to get me a job were they work.
It would be nice if I could have got the help threw vocational rehabilitaion to get a job (imposible to stay in contact with them), so I figured I would just try myself and see if anything works out.

I dont know, I am thinking maybe she was wrong about something and realized that after she talked to the supervisor, I am not sure (I didnt understand most of what she was fired up about anyway)

Well, I was kinda joking...just thinking of alternative explanations for her change in disposition!

So glad to hear you did all this!!!

I totally agree that it seems so many that work in people jobs, shouldn't be anywhere near people, their people skills stink. I bet she was so despicable her supervisor and he straightened her out! She either had a turn around cause her boss reprimanded her or she actually somehow realized what an a$$ she was being and felt bad.

I like Pegs idea...I know it was jokingly but it could be true.

Great job doing that today, will you get back pay too since you've been entitled to this for a while? Hope so!

I dont think so, my mom said that I should get back pay, but I am just lucky that the lady let me get the unemployment, I really dont think she was willing to give me back pay (or even if I could get it or not)

You do have a resume, right? From anything I've heard, they'll want that. If I'm not mistaken, I may well be, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think a resume is something places would want with an application.

Have you tried a bicycle store?

for the jobs I applied for (recieving, stocking, anything non sales), you just fill out a application online, they dont want a resume :D(luckily because I dont have one).

Have you tried someplace that has a 'geek' type squad? I know you don't hold them in the highest regard, but it does seem to be the best place for you to apply your skills...best buy, staples...things like that?

Obviously you know the economy stinks...just be patient, it's likely more a factor of that than anything else...keep plugging away!

Have you looked at Monster or any of those type sites?

Most computer repair places require certification in repair, and/or IT.
My son took that test, when he graduated from college.

I am sorry I don't know the name of this ..if you are interested I can email him.

Attending a technical training school is a good idea.

I would have to work with the public, and I just cant do that

I look at the job sites every other day. I have been looking at those sites for a long time, but I was watching for something that I would really want to do, a job that I would really want to work at and enjoy, but I have never seen on on any of the job sites. Now I have been looking for just anything.
My mom made a good point, she said that if I was to just try something, that it is not like it is a life senstence, if I dont like it just quit if I have to, but any job I get is better then nothing. She had a good point, but I am still somewhat scared of getting a new job, scared because I dont know what it is going to be like

Many places now use temp agencies when they need help.

I have seen them then hire in out of the agency(if they like someone) rather than do their own hiring from scratch.
This is becoming more common as some smaller businesses eliminate their
own Human Resources in a cost cutting move. So many jobs may not appear on lists or Monster for this reason.

I once worked threw a temp agency, to make a long story short, they sent me to a job, that I only worked one day at, and by the end of the day I told the person to go..... themself and walked out, then I told the lady at the temp agency the same thing. I might have trouble communicating most of the time, but I think I was very clear to them ;). I dont like being taken advantage of, and I especialy dont like people thinking they are going to take advantage of people who have disabilities thinking that they are going to get some cheap 'slave' labor. I only worked there one day, and they deserved what I told them, so I wont be ever trying a temp agency ever again. :)
