(CBS) For many people there's only one real reason to drink diet soda.

"Because it's got no calories and, yeah, you try to watch your weight," says Raymond Tomczak.

But, as The Early Show medical correspondent Dr. Emily Senay reports, some experts are now saying diet soda may be doing the exact opposite: making them gain weight.

Except for those with insulin issues, this is not a problem. I even have moderate hypoglycemia and have lost over 90 lbs in the past 16 1/2 mo in spite of several diet sodas a day. If you eat Big Macs and fries with your Diet Coke, of course you'll gain, but if you eat reasonably and get regular exercise, diet soda does not result in weight gain.
