Try injecting Betaseron every other day, or rebif 3 times a week - -after each injection you can get hit with the side effects...not just once a week...

When I started Betaseron, I took 2 ibuprofen at the time of injection, went to bed, and then when I woke up 4-5 hours later, with chills and body aches and headaches, took two more. After another hour or so sleep, I was fine.

Even now, 13 or so years later, I still take two ibuprofen when I inject. If I don't, I won't sleep through the night.

Are you new to the interferons? It does get better in time. Took me about 2 months to finally not wake in the middle of the night, feeling ill.

I take a generic brand benedryl on shot night hoping I'll sleep through the aches, since that is the same ingredient in all over the counter sleep aids. I also take Aleve which seems to work best for me. If I have any chills, I resort to a nice old fashioned hot water bottle which helps alot!

Yes, the side effects do get better over time, but I still never from week to week if I'll be fine, or Avonex will kick my behind.

There are several newer sleep meds. out that are not supposed to cause dependancy, and I'm going to ask about them next doc visit.

I took Tylenol with my Beteseron shot for the first couple of months. Now I don't get the flu-like symptoms anymore, so I don't bother. How long have you been taking Avonex? Maybe you'll get over that crap, too.
