Hi
I am new to this community and was wondering if someone could offer support. My mom just had a SAH at the age of 63. It was a very large one and she spent one month in ICU with pulmonary embolism, hydrocephalus, vasospasms, and a heartattack. SHe has now spent one week in rehab and they feel she is doing well physically but has quite a bit of cognitive impairment. I am so worried for her- she was otherwise so healthy and this has come to such a surprise to all of us. Can anyone tell me if the confusion is to be expected and how long before that improves? She did have frontal lobe damage that seems to be improving but she constantly needs to be reoriented to what has happened to her and where she is. SHe recognizes people but will have a very confused conversation. I miss my old mom and hope and pray she comes back to us. I know it can be a long road but can someone please tell me if there is light at the end of this nightmarish tunnel? Thank you so much.

I'm so sorry! :( *hug You mentioned she has hydro. How long ago was the anni dx'ed? Does she have a shunt? The confusion could be a reaction to pressure change, a small seizure, or damage to the brain from all of this. If she has a shunt and has for awhile, and if the confusion is a new problem, she should go back to her nsg and get the shunt checked. The pressure setting may be wrong for her.

Feel free to post on the Hydrocephalus forum here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=164 and the Aneurysm forum here: http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=85

I hope to "see" you on the hydro forum!

*hug

Hi
My mom had her bleed about 1 month ago. She only initially had a seizure but none after she had the coiling done. They are trying to wean her off of Dilantin. She does not have a shunt right now. She did have 2 drains put in after she had hydrocephalus and they pulled the drains and couldn't do a shunt at the time b/c of infection. They did a cat scan about a week ago and she had slightly enlarged ventricles and they were going to repeat it the middle of this week. Her confusion started after the bleed, got better, then she had vasospasms and hydrocephalus and it got worse and has slightly improved. She is very confused now though. I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this and if it will go away. Thanks for responding.
