Hello all,

I need to know what are some good inpatient TBI rehab centers in the Northeast USA for pediatric population. Please respond if you are a professional or somebody who has had experience. What we are looking at the facility (for our 8 year old son who recently had a tragic brain injury) are:
1.Motivated and dedicated therapists
2.Physicians with inclination towards research/clinical trial/alternate therapies

Thank you, and we appreciate your time.

((((((JG)))))),

Welcome to BrainTalk http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/moose53/MINIS/HUGS/th_empathy2.gif.

You might also want to post your message over in the Child Neurology forum (http://brain.hastypastry.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=115). There are a lot of really supportive Moms and Dads and Grandparents there. I'm sure some of them might be able to offer some suggestions.

I don't have any experience with anything like what you've mentioned. But, I would suggest Children's Hospital (http://www.childrenshospital.org/) in Boston, Massachusetts. They are a research and teaching hospital and are a member hospital of Partners Healthcare which is a consortium of hospitals, including Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital. These are some of the world's best hospitals. They're all affiliated with Harvard University.

Children's Hospital also has a Brain Injury Program (http://www.childrenshospital.org/clinicalservices/Site2020/printerfriendlypageS2020P0.html).

I wish that you and your family and your child were not having to experience any of this ... the pain, the uncertainty, the fear, the loneliness. If I could take away any of it, I would.

Bless your sweet boy. You'll find, if you hang around with us at the Child Neuro forum, that we have witnessed a lot of miracles there. I pray that your son receives his own miracle.

Bless you all. BIG HUGS.

Barb

PS: There is a Ronald McDonald near the medical area in Boston where parents can stay while their child is hospitalized. You also have access to some of the best doctors and hospitals in the world in Boston.

PS2: I've been savings bookmarks for close to 20 years. A lot of them are medically related. There are quite a few that relate to getting free transportation to medical care in another area: http://public.murl.com/moose53/HEALTH_AND_MEDICAL/HELP!! Dear Barb??

Thank you so much for your quick response. We did try to contact CH at Boston, but hasn't gotten an appointment yet. By word of mouth and from website, we heard that Kennedy Kreiger (Maryland) and CHOP (Philly) are very reputable. The apptments are for Jan and Feb. I will update once we visit the places. We visited Rusk (part of NYU) and that was not a match for Jacob's needs.

Thank you for your genuine concern and prayers. It is a very difficult time of our life. Life went upside down within split of a second. I believe there is a limit that we can do and all depends on Allmighty. I believe in prayers and miracles. Please continue your prayers for Jacob.
