View Full Version : Just what I didn't want!

Well, on top of my CSF leak (which I know I have but the doctors do not) I also have some kind of bacterial infection in my sinus area. It all started with a case of pink eye last week for which the doctor gave me antibiotic eye drops. The eye drops cleared up the eye right away but not soon after I began having green nasal discharge (sorry to be gross) and now I have a low-grade fever. This is just what I did not want to happen - the combination of an infection and a CSF leak cannot be a good thing. I've read that many cases of meningitis occur concurrently with another infection. For some of you long-time cranial leakers I suppose I sound like a "fraidy-cat" but the meningitis thing really freaks me out.

I am in a quandary as to what to do. Going on an antibiotic could improve the current infection but would also allow the more virulent bugs to live on and possibly result in a worse infection down the line. But, if I try to ride it out, I could be increasing the chances for the infection spreading now. Do any of you guys have any thoughts?

Thanks for listening.....Ed.

Well Ed...The Mom in me says get you to the DOCTOR NOW! Especially with a fever there is no way I would think "riding it out" would be a good idea. I would think the best way to avoid meningitis is to not let an infection go unchecked. And you have had a head injury recently so really Ed...this is nothing to wait and see about...ok?

Thanks for responding Shelly. The problem is I have not felt t-h-a-t sick. If it was a rip roaring infection I would have gone in again right away. But, it has been sort of mild and lingering - not getting much worse and not really getting better. I appreciate the "mother" in you - I need a Mom as my real Mom isn't around anymore. I am going to see how I do this morning and if I am not noticeably better by lunch time then I will go to an urgent care clinic.

Thanks again...
