Does anyone have Medicare Part A plus insurance coverage through your spouse? I'm wondering what kind of coverage Medicare provides as a secondary insurance. Will we see a difference for the next major inpatient surgery? We're still paying for his surgeries that began 4 years ago! Will we see a difference?
Thanks, ya'll!

I have Medicare A and B and that is my secondary coverage. They have basically "picked up the tab" on what the primary insurer does not pay, including my co-pay for office visits, once the medicare deductible is met. I have no experience as to how well Medicare does when it comes to surgeries, only for doctor office visits and outpatient tests.

Thank you, Dennis. I didn't realize there was a deductible for Medicare. Do you recall what it is? From what I remember reading, Med A will only benefit us for inpatient hospital visits. I hope I'm wrong about that!

do a search for "medicare deductible 2007" and that will hopefully answer any questions that you have. I found a site www.cms.hhs.gov that is the US Health and Human services site that has the complete "low down".

The deductible for Medicare is, I believe, only for Medicare Part B. which is the Part that you pay for. The deductible for 2006 was $125, and I think the deductible this year is $130. I could be slightly wrong on those amounts.
I don't know whether Part A has the deductible or not. I haven't been in the hospital at all since I have had Medicare, which is only one year.
I have a secondary insurance, from when I was employed. My former employer still provides that insurance to me without cost as a retireee.
