I was going to call this "Great New Snack" but decided that I will leave it open to all "Great Snacks".
Today I got my order from Amazon. Two boxes of Sensible Foods Organic Crunch Dried Snacks. Each box holds 24-1 serving package. The box was $25 - not bad, only about $1.00 per snack. I ordered the Cherry Berry and the Orchard Blend. I have only tried the Cherry Berry and it was delisch:p I am sure that I will be able to eat the 48 packs before the expiration date. The good news is that the Berry pack was quite filling and only 84 calories  The pack says GF and there are no peanuts in the facility. Here is a link http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gro/002-3817835-6868828?url=search-alias%3Dgrocery&field-keywords=sensible+foods&Go.x=0&Go.y=0&Go=Go
I want to try them all now(except the soy). There was no shipping either :D

Hi Anne,
I just put in an order for the Cherry, Orchard, Tropical and Apple. I am going to keep half and put the other half out at work for our employees.
It sounds like a nice easy snack for my daughter to take to school.
Thanks for posting the info.
I'll have to check this out too! Sounds perfect for school snacks. Are they light and crunchy? I had some baby food dried corn that my neice had for her baby, and they were good! I hope J will eat these :).

Yes, they are light and crunchy. No added sugar so they are not sugary. I am going to send my sons a box. I have not found a healthy snack bar that I like. This will be great for work and travel.
I have no financial interest in this company - I do want it to be sucessful cause I like the product

I love dried fruit & was just reading to day that if your diet is rich in dried fruit you have less wrinkles. But, I am just not into paying $25.00 for a total of 1.125 lbs of dried fruit. It seems to me that we all love the packaging. I have been guilty of this myself & had to rethink an energy bar that was quite pricey when it was only dates & nuts ground up together. I can still chew foods so I opted to pack my own dates and nuts.:D
Also when I checked the ingredients for the berry blend the first one was apples. I hate misleading advertising, since the last time I checked apples were not a berry...
If you have a need for the packaging it would be worth the money, such as for a child's lunch so that they could have something that looked similar to what other kids were eating.

I have never found a fruit nut bar that I like. I take dried fruit and nuts to work. This is a nice change from that. Something different. It is different than conventionally dried fruit - it is crunchy.
Yeah, wish they hadn't put in so many apples but they are good too.

I like to make homemade jerky, since the ones in the store usually have weird preservatives and/or gluten. It's so easy! Buy some presliced meat (for Carne Asada, etc.) or slice your own very thinly (might want to freeze it for a couple of hours first), then marinate about 24 hours in the refrigerator in:
Bragg's Amino Acids
Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce
Liquid Smoke
garlic powder, onion powder (GF)
Just toss it all in a bowl or plastic bag - after 24 hours, lay each strip on a metal cookie sheet or two (don't need to spray it) and put in a 200 degree oven for about 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Keeps for WEEKS (but it usually doesn't last that long in our house). Great for travelling when you want something with protein but can't eat cheese and you're sick of nuts...:D

Bragg's Amino Acids - never heard of this. So of course I googled it
Sounded good - not fermented and can be used in the place of soy sauce. But then I read it is made of soy. Supposedly I react to soy. Right now I am trying to be soy free to see if it makes a difference.
Lea & Perrins - is that fermented? What are the ingredients? Wonder if I can have that?
Jerky would be a nice change from nuts.

Hi Anne -
Yes - Bragg's Liquid Aminos is made from "vegetable protein from soybeans and purified water." But the label states, "Gluten Free - Not Fermented - No Preservatives - No Alcohol."
I have read in various places that Lea & Perrins Worcestershire Sauce is gluten-free. Its ingredients label states: "Vinegar, molasses, high fructose corn syrup, anchovies, water, onions, salt, garlic, tamarind concentrate, cloves, natural flavorings, chili pepper extract." Ooo that "natural flavorings" always gets me! But as I said, I have READ that it's gluten-free, and we've been using it without anyone getting sick...

I know that brussel sprouts don't usually fall under the catagory of "great snacks" but I have to tell you what I found today.
In the grocery store the brussel sprouts were still on the stalk. :D Choosing the sprouts I wanted and picking them off the stalk was fun - sort of felt as though I was harvesting them from the garden  They were the freshest sprouts I have ever seen in a grocery store. And they were yummy :p Yes, I could eat them as a "snack".
A Fresh Market (http://www.thefreshmarket.com/) will be opening soon very near me and I have noticed that the local grocery store is looking a little spiffier and the produce is looking better. There is even a bigger organic section. I think they are getting ready for some competition.

Thanks, Al - you are a clever guy! :D And Anne - don't tell me you ate those Brussels Sprouts RAW? Steamed 'em, right? Cool about finding more organic produce at the grocery store. We (I) spend a fortune on organic produce these days, but I think it's a good idea. Anyone read Kevin Trudeau's book, Natural Cures THEY Don't Want you to Know About?? He advocates organic produce, among many many other things. The latest Living Without magazine has a number of recipes for cookie bars/snack bars. I'll post if anyone's interested...

What I was concerned about is that I think it is fermented. I still don't do well with fermented foods. :( I have not tried using worschestershire sauce in years. Maybe I will need to test it.

Hi Anne,
Yeah...I knew you were trying to determine if it was Anne-Friendly. I just wanted to back up MrsZ's info with recent verification. :)
However....the L & P in Canada is NOT GF. :(

My favorite recent workout snack is "Sharkies (http://www.sharkiesinc.com/index2.cfm)". It's the only thing quick I can eat anymore while I'm working out or rock climbing, as all the other bars have stuff I can't eat, like nuts and soy. Fruit leather does work too. I hope that rice syrup in Sharkies is GF like they claim! The citrus is my favorite flavor.

Oh boy, I do love brussel sprouts. :) Try to steam them in a little beef broth and add in chestnuts. YUMMY!
On the theme of nuts and dried fruit. I've recently become addicted to mixing raisins and peanuts. The sweet/salty thing drives me wild.
But I discovered that roasted, salted pecans are pretty sensational. Even better than peanuts.
Sometimes I put a little honey and peanut butter on the mixture and stir it together and eat it with a spoon.
The happy thing is, my gut is letting me eat nuts!

Hmm - Sharkies - that is a new one. I will have to look for them. They sound good and the ingredients sound better than what makes up jelly beans and gummy bears.
I like to add some carrots to the brussel sprouts - pretty combo.
Nuts and dried fruit :p I find if I carry nuts to work it takes me a long time to eat them. If I add dried fruit, I eat at a much faster pace.

My favorite way to make brussel sprouts is roasting them with balsamic vinegar and honey Oooo that sounds great - could you post your recipe? After reading Anne's posts, :D I got some Brussels sprouts at the store today. I usually steam them and melt cheddar cheese on top, but balsamic vinegar with honey sounds better and healthier...

There are several flavors that are "Grain Free", too.
This is especially important for me because I must avoid not just GLUTEN but:
All Sweeteners, except Stevia and fruit juice
All Alcohols
Caffene. . .Including Chocolate, Coffee, and Caffinated Teas
So I am SO very happy to have finally found such a simple protein bar.
My favorites are:
"Cashew Cookie" MMMmmm
"Lemon Bar" YUM!:p
"Cinnamon Roll" oh-so-gooie :D
"Bananna Cookie" YUMMMMMMMMIE!
Hope this helps. Bon Apetite!
May you have a good appetite,
Ona :)
