I was using a website to translate words from English into different foreign
languages. I've used this site before-the last time being 12/26. Well, this
time, I clicked on the link to the site...and it shut my browser down! I tried
it 3 or 4 times and IE quit every time. I've had this particular site in my
favorites for a couple of years and it's the first time this has happened.
If there's a problem with the website itself, would it affect IE?
Thanks!:)

Hello Gina and happy new year
Could you post the link that shuts down your IE7 or IE6 browser, to see it if affects my computer. A little research and this what I found
This could be a microsoft's resolution: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/889389/
This is also another possibility: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899102/
IE 7 Support: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/8722
IE 6 Support: http://support.microsoft.com/ph/2073
Cheers:)

Here's the link:
http://www.babelfish.altavista.com
I've used this link for a couple of years and I never had any trouble with
it. And, since I had just used it on the 26th, I'm wondering if it's a problem
with the website itself.
Thanks for your help!:)
I use Babel as well. It always open fine for me. Just tried it again and it is OK my end. I've not had problems with it shutting down my browser, though it has been giving out Error Messages a lot when I attempt to translate something. Seems to be intermittent.

Hello Gina
I had no problem connecting to the Babel link in either IE6 or IE7, also used all the English to language options and still no problems. so it could be on your end, did you check out those links yet. Did you add any new programs or such since 12/26/06. Last resort is to do a system restore back to the date bable was working. Does the shutting down browser error happen only on the Babel site.

I just tried the site again myself, with no problems. I haven't added any
new programs to the PC. I'm wondering if it's IE doing this. You know:
"Internet Explorer has unexpectedly quit". Maybe it's just a coincidence
that it happened while I was on that site?
It seems to be okay now, though. Thanks!:)

Hello
Your're welcome, glad it was the Babel sites glitch and not on your end. :)

If there was a problem at the Babel end of things, the Babel server would try to forcibly disconnect the connection. This would likely result in a browser error at your end.
