Prostate cancer prevention clinical trials ? AstraZeneca advanced ? Part 2

AstraZeneca PLC is a large Anglo Swedish pharmaceutical company formed April 6, 1999 by the merger of Swedish Astra AB and British Zeneca Group plc. Many people say that AstraZeneca PLC is a leader in the various studies conducted in the fight against prostate cancer. In the preceding paragraphs, I will tell you more about using drugs produced is used for clinical trials. It works by blocking specific ETA receptor, inhibiting the proliferation of tumor cells, cancer patients survival of tumor cells, tumor angiogenesis and the pathophysiology of metastatic bone tumors in the prostate.

According to John Patterson, CEO of AstraZeneca for development: "The heart of the treatment of prostate cancer ? a cancer driven by the natural male hormone ? hormone therapy is ? While this type of treatment offers great value for many men, the majority of patients eventually become resistant to hormonal treatments. For these men, there are currently few proven options outside of the chemotherapy and the prognosis is often poor. ZD4054 offers a novel potential treatment.

AstraZeneca has indeed done well in the past with drugs hormotherapeutic ZOLADEX (goserelin) and Casodex (bicalutamide), launched in 1987 and 1995 respectively. The Phase III studies are multicenter randomized controlled trials in large patient groups (300-3,000 or more depending on the disease or medical condition studied) and aim to be the definitive assessment of the effectiveness of medication. They are more costly, lengthy and difficult trials to design and implement, especially in therapies for chronic diseases such as cancer of the prostate permanently.

I suppose we must give them a chance to prove themselves, for we all know ZD4054 May whatsoever. Carcinoma of the prostate affects almost two hundred thousand new men each year in the United States alone, and kills about twenty seven miles. At least we can afford better treatments for cancer.
