Gleason Grade of Prostate Cancer

In the event of a prostate biopsy and confirmed the presence of prostate cancer, Gleason score is judged by the appearance of cells of prostate cancer under the microscope. A Gleason score is awarded the higher the level of prostate Gleason, the severity of the malignancy of cancer cells.

A level of a Gleason prostate cancer is as follows:

Gleason Grade 1 shows the early stages of cancer cells. Under the microscope, these cancer cells of the prostate should be very close to normal (if not healthy) tissue of the prostate. There are no deformities or lumps, the prostate glands are small, naturally formed and tightened. Because in an untrained eye, the cancer cells of the prostate is almost normal, this level of Gleason prostate cancer is more difficult to detect.

Gleason Grade 2 shows the tissue that is still well-formed glands. But they are significantly larger and may seem a little bloated and have more tissue them. At this stage the level of Gleason prostate cancer, it is still considered early.

Gleason grade 3 May, the same appearance as Gleason grade 2, but there are some parts much darker. Under a powerful microscope or under high magnification, show Gleason grade 3 cancer cells of the prostate invading the surrounding tissues. While still recognizable, the gift of this level would Gleason dark spots.

Gleason Grade 4 is already a condition of an escalation of Gleason grade 3. There would still be recognizable glands but the cells of prostate cancer is already very visible. A large number of cells of prostate cancer is currently the most to invade surrounding tissues.

Gleason Grade 5 is the worst condition of the prostate. On Gleason grade 5, the tissues of the prostate won't have any recognizable glands. Under the microscope, they would only show tissues from malignant tissue cells of prostate cancer.

The data show that the higher the Gleason prostate cancer, more cancer cells are aggressive. Knowing the level of Gleason staging of prostate cancer, medical specialist can determine what roads to take and whether treatment techniques most comprehensive such as radical prostatectomy should be used.

Identifying the level of Gleason prostate cancer follows the prostate biopsy. For extraction of tissue samples from different parts of the prostate, the specialist can determine the level of Gleason prostate and can recommend the best option for treatment.
