Treatment and survivor of prostate cancer

For treatment of prostate cancer, Focused high density ultrasonic techniques are often used where high density of sound waves to destroy cancer cells. Sound waves are produced from an endorectal probe placed inside the patient's body. Chemotherapy, on the other hand, is a treatment against cancer that kills cancer cells or stop their cell division. Chemotherapy can be either systemic chemotherapy or regional chemotherapy. The first is injected into a vein and it is placed directly into the body cavity.

When radiotherapy is used to treat prostate cancer, high energy X-rays or other types of radiation to kill cancer cells or slow their growth. When a machine outside the body is used to send the radiation it is called external beam radiotherapy and when a radioactive substance sealed in needles son or catheters is placed near the cancer inside the body, it is called internal radiotherapy.

Efforts to treat prostate cancer are two distinct types: the treatment of local disease (localized) and treat disease remotely (metastasis). Surviving prostate cancer depends on the type of cancer, the presence or absence of metastasis, patient age, general history of the overall health of the patient and the family context.

The three standard therapies for men with prostate tumor localized are watchful waiting, surgery and radiotherapy. So far, no detailed comparative study of all three options was undertaken. Researchers from the University of Florida have developed a new gene therapy to stop cancer growth by using a synthetic protein to induce blood clotting which stops the blood of a tumor and the supply of nutrients.

Researchers are also studying ways to deliver proteins directly to sites of interest rather than by genes that occur later, the protein. Other researchers use nanoparticles to detect tumors and deliver drugs or radiate heat to destroy cancer cells bombarded by radio waves.

Noscapine, a natural substance found in medicines against cough may be useful in treating prostate cancer. No significant toxicity was also observed with noscapine. The study was completed successfully in mice will be conducted in humans and it is expected that there will be no side effects.

In the treatment of prostate cancer, from the viewpoint of naturopathy, watchful waiting may be called a regular treatment since changes occur in the patient's diet and supplements and herbs are prescribed. Patient will have sufficient time to evaluate treatment options and to ensure surviving prostate cancer. In watchful waiting, regular digital rectal exams and PSA monitoring is carried out.

In the case of elderly patients, treatment of prostate cancer is always a dilemma. Rather than a “wait and see” policy to observe the spread of cancer, it is established that they can survive the chances of prostate cancer are higher if given the treatment of active cancer. In a study of nearly 50,000 older men suffering from prostate tumors early, active treatment group lived for 13 years and more compared to the other, wait and see group that has lived more than 10 years only.
