(The information contained in this article do not constitute medical advice, please consult a physician if you have questions about breast health issues raised in this article.)
?
My first pass through breast cancer treatment highways on which I visited are the typical "cut, poison and burn" routine.??urgeon TSRI extract the tumor and surrounding tissue in a lumpectomy.??en I underwent chemotherapy called CMF, a toxic, colorless cocktail of three chemicals:??clophosphamide, methotrexate and fluorouracil.??nally, my chest shone for six weeks to seal the fate of all the cancer cells remaining hidden within.??rticle focuses on my experience with the chemo
?
The most common side effects of short-term chemotherapy include loss of hair, fatigue, nausea, mucositis (irritation of the lining of the mouth and intestines), an increased risk of infection (due to low white blood cell count) and anemia (due to low red blood cell count).?
?
I do not know all of these side effects.??here hair thinned, but has not disappeared. Blood y??-cell count decreased, but not so much that I could do a cross-country vacation two weeks.??idn ‘t suffer any infections during the three months to complete chemo
?
Between infusions of chemotherapy religiously technicians took samples of blood from me as overzealous vampire bats.??t draws blood were performed to determine if my red and white-blood-cell count was too low for me d to be treated.??cause my blood was being checked so often, my right arm (the one without the nodes removed from the armpit) felt the effects of these pokes more additional injections IV.??rtunately my veins do not collapse
?
Nurses have often solved the problem IV sticking my arm in a bucket of hot water to make it more accessible veins.??though this technique has been stupid not to test, by the grace of God, she usually worked and veins of my arms have been difficult throughout the treatment.?
?
Although I have not lost all my hair, the concoction CMF my periods stopped cold about a month after the first infusion. Search for??o find information on breast cancer showed that CMF was more likely to trigger menopause medicines containing Adriamycin (chemical name:??oxorubicin) or Taxol / Taxotere (chemical name:??****axel / docetaxel). But??driamycin is a chemotherapy drug particularly hard, more than CMF, causing hair loss for some, significantly reduced numbers of white and red blood cells, and often severe nausea. ND??axol / Taxotere can cause peripheral neuropathy, numbness of fingers and toes
?
As a normal period of ten years of menopause has been condensed into a few months because of chemo, my body was adjusting to an abrupt reduction in estrogen, leading to night sweats, hot flashes and mood swings.??t talk about bone loss, insomnia, and heart risk.?? was unclear whether menopause or treatment of chemotherapy caused no symptoms.??sed a Chillow foam pad for night sweats melatonin to induce sleep, and calcium and vitamin D to prevent bone loss
?
Exhaustion was another challenge.?? avoid the fatigue that often accompanies chemotherapy, patients should initiate mild to moderate physical activity such as walking 10-20 minutes every day. Physical activity??fter the treatment can not only improve fatigue, but it offers psychological benefits.??ancer patients who exercise REAST feel stronger and less depressed than those who are sedentary.
?
When I was tired from lack of sleep and not eat or exercise properly, I noticed that I could not concentrate well.??is mental fog, commonly called "chemo brain" causes temporary confusion and the inability to make calculations, and mild forgetfulness.??ent my concentration and memory problems by making lists, leaving messages on electronic calendars or voice mail to remind me of things, and using a daily planner to take notes on the urgent tasks.?
?
As alternatives to food for chemotherapy, a doctor may recommend their use unless they have been proven effective for their intended use.??here is anecdotal evidence that specific supplements (such as melatonin and iron) can help.?? I was their sole benefit of alleviating some side effects of Western medicine.??ide-effects decreased ITH, I was a happier patient, ready to brave continued treatment with medication clinically proven.
?
When I conducted research to locate information on cyberspace breast cancer, I consulted only reliable sites.??ipe displaying the HONcode logo are considered more reliable than sites without it.??ts logo represents a certification that the site complies with the Health on the Net principles, designed to increase accuracy, objectivity and reliability of medical information on the Internet?.
?
As you can see, this tale of three Chemos, C, M and F, is not one of doom.??r is it generally a tale of total loss of hair.??hemo nce is the patient suffering from breast cancer is about the final stretch on the road to wellness.
